Product Description

Hannah and Joey have been best friends for ever. Joey's parents love rescuing things and making them beautiful - their house is full of things made from driftwood, old glass and shells from the beach. Which is why the scraggy kittens the girls find in a bin at school end up living there. And when Paul moves in as Joey's foster brother, everyone thinks that maybe he needs rescuing too. But nobody knows quite how badly. At first, it's great - Hannah's brother befriends Paul, and the four of them hang out together. But then things start to go wrong. Paul is being bullied. Subtly at first - but quickly it gets dangerous. People aren't like driftwood or abandoned kittens and Hannah doesn't know how to rescue him. Paul doesn't want to be rescued - but with help, he can find a way to save himself.

Customer Reviews

wonderful and totally believable5
This is a lovely, touching book about love, friendship, and being different and not fitting in. The characters are so real, and you really find yourself rooting for Paul - wanting his life to turn around. It's great to read a book where the 'baddies' aren't at all obvious or who you'd expect them to be.

Driftwood is a fantastic heartwarming read from a brilliant author whose books are original and beautifully written. You can race through it, but it's thought provoking and the characters stay in your mind for ages afterwards. And I didn't guess the ending, either!

Can't wait for the next Cathy Cassidy book!

fab characters, totally believable5
driftwood is fantastic - a book you can race through but with characters which stay with you for ages afterwards. I was really rooting for paul, wanting his life to turn around - and didn't guess the ending at all. It's great to read a book that takes a sensitive look at bullying, and not fitting in, and shows that the 'baddies' aren't always who you'd expect them to be. I loved this, and can't wait for Cathy's next book!

You can smell the salty air! xx5
I'm lucky enough to live by the sea and Cathy captured all the best bits about it brilliantly. She also did a great job of explaining bullying and the fact that it can be overcome, friends are important, adults can do the right thing (sometimes!) and happiness can win out XXX
Thanks again for another brilliant book. :c}
