From the Author
The book for those who want to succeed in project management
It is one thing bringing your project in on time and keeping everyone happy but it is quite a different problem to be successful in the world of project management. This book's aim is to make you into a highly successful project manager.

When I wrote this book I could not have imagined how popular it has become.

From the Back Cover

'It's certainly hot content-wise...the ultimate companion for both managers and consultants across the industry.' - Enterprise, September 1999

This great introduction to project management has already demystified the topic for thousands of aspiring project managers. It brings a light, down-to-earth touch to a subject that can easily be seen as confusing, misleading and unhelpful. Examples are drawn from many industries including construction, civil engineering, product launches, publishing, computer hardware and software, scientific projects, aerospace and the public sector.

In this new third edition, Geoff Reiss has updated the text to reflect the way the techniques have changed in recent years, including a new chapter on governance and methodologies. Methodologies like Prince2 have become almost essential, and their use especially within the public sector is explored. The problems of managing a portfolio of projects are explored as well as a greater examination of risk management.

Written in an approachable and easy-to-read style, this practical introduction will:

  • show you how, where and when to use the various project management techniques ;
  • demonstrate how you can achieve efficient management of human, material and financial resources;
  • help you make major contributions to the success of your projects;
  • make you an appreciated and successful project manager.

Get It!5
Part of my job is to manage multiple projects on a day to day basis. I have therefore been looking for a good book to help with improving the Project Management process. This book is the first (of maybe 20+) that I have read about Project Management that is short and to the point. It is clearly written by somebody who not only knows what he is talking about but also somebody who understands how to get his message across. Highly recommended!

Project Management demystified: really!4
Hardened project managers may find the slightly tongue in cheek presentation a little hard to take, but this book is aimed at those who want to know more about the methodology without having to dive into the deep water of "serious" text books. Goeff Reiss manages to tread a fine line between lightness of touch and depth of focus. I can recommend this to anyone wanting to know more about the subject.

I bought this book on the basis of reviews. Its an easy read and is a great overview to the whole process. Sure, in 200 pages you can't go into detail on every topic but the book doesn't try to. It is a great start point from which you can use the more classic reference books as support material. I'm now buying my second copy as I've already given away the first.... and I'll probably be back for more.
