In 1969, Pink Floyd was invited to compose a soundtrack forFrench filmmaker Barbet Schroeder. The result was MORE, a collection that doubled as Floyd's first full-length record following the departure of founding member Syd Barrett. Unlike most soundtracks where composers are content to write one continuous score, Floyd instead focused on creating actual songs to go along with a handful of instrumentals.
Roger Waters' compositions "Cirrus Minor" and "The Nile Song" are dominated by Richard Wright's funereal keyboards and David Gilmour's slashing guitar, respectively, whereas other Waters vehicles are more acoustic ballads ("Crying Song", "Green IsThe Colour"). The other Floyd members' contributions include Wright and Nick Mason's collaboration on the improvisatory"Up The Khyber" and Gilmour's brief, flamenco-flavoured cut, "A Spanish Piece". Pink Floyd's strength as a space-rock band adept at dabbling in textures and atmosphere comes to the fore during the four songs that the quartet composed as a unit. The success of this film in the French market also allowed Floyd a huge step towards gaining popularity in a region where Anglo-American rock groups traditionally fared poorly.

More Please!
1969's "More" (the soundtrack accompanying the film of the same name), meanwhile offers the heaviest Pink Floyd recordings ever : near to hard rock-metal than anything else they ever did : in addition this album offers re-recordings of the original soundtrack rearranged for record release - as the versions heard in the film are often substantially different and the film itself features two songs not released anywhere else. It's an odd ride, of many different styles and lacking a singular voice, but worth a listen.
Interesting addition to my pink floyd collection!
I've always been slightly wary about the lesser known albums in Pink Floyd's portfolio but after recently buying - and liking - ummagumma and atom heart mother I bought More. I really like David Gilmour's voice on this album and the songs seem more confident than those on Saucerful of Secrets. To me it connects the earlier albums to Meddle, Obscured by Clouds and Dark Side of the Moon - it feels like a process is occuring rather than an event. It's a good, mellow album which deserves a chance by other wary Pink Floyd fans!
Always my favourite pink floyd album
Apart from Syd Barrett's stuff this has always been my favourite Pink Floyd album. It's a bit spaced out and dreamy but full of musical invention and very classy. This and their Zabriski Point contributions (the ones that the director used) are for me the high-point of their career, including Julia Dream and the studio disc from Ummagumma.
