Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Dave Mustaine, who broke down so candidly in Metallica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER documentary, has nothing to be ashamed of. Since his unceremonious boot from Metallica, he's been responsible for some of the most thrilling, adventurous metal in existence with his project Megadeth. With their first release, 1985's KILLING IS MY BUSINESS AND BUSINESS IS GOOD, Megadeth combined thrash metal heaviness with jazz-inspired improvisation to express Mustaine's singular take on heavy music, and they never looked back. WARCHEST isn't just the most comprehensive one-stop Megadeth collection; it also debuts awhopping 33 unreleased tracks, including an entire show from the band's 1990 peak.
The first three discs feature scattered, thrilling tracks from Megadeth's studio albums interspersed with demos, live songs, and outtakes, including Megadeth standards like "The Skull Beneath the Skin" (from theirdebut), and "Symphony Of Destruction" (from their crossoversmash COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION). It's a comprehensive overview of their remarkably consistent output and cynical anti-war political views, not to mention a clinic in colorful, imaginative metal. Disc four, however, is the real treat, presenting an entire 1990 show from England's Wembley Stadium featuring the band fresh off their creative apex, RUST IN PEACE.Altogether, it's over six hours of an exciting, intelligentband that has unfairly stood in the shadow of their leader's former group. With WARCHEST, Megadeth gets an overdue walkin the sun.

Stunning!5
I've only recently got into to the 'Deth after the release of last album (the equally stunning) United Abominations and have been busying myself collecting all the 2004 re-releases.

I picked up the Warchest box-set because there is a lot of stuff I didn't have. There is a lot of album cuts on here that die hard fans will already have, but there's also a lot of stuff from compilations and film soundtracks, Japanese bonus tracks, unreleased live tracks and demos. Everything has been remastered so the sound quality is amazing.

Dave Mustaine must have put a lot of work in to this because everything is beautifully presented, the actual box itself is worth the price alone!

This is probably the best box set i've ever bought!

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE5
The best thing Metallica ever did was to fire Dave Mustaine as the world was given the band Megadeth and so for the next 25 years Dave Mustaine went on a personal crusade to be better than Metallica. While he was never going to compete sales wise (not many do) he ceartinly competes music wise. And thats what this 5 disc (4cd & 1 dvd) boxset proves.

Covering Megadeth from the beginning right up to 2004 album The System Has Failed, its all here singles, b sides, live tracks, demos and line up changes.

The first three discs cover all the albums with a selection of songs taken from each. But its not just the tracks lifted straight from the original albums, what you get is live versions, demos and songs that didnt make those original albums. You also get the songs that were only ever released on soundtracks such as No More Mr Nice Guy, Angry again, Go to hell (these are also available on the album Hidden Treasures. Some of the stand out tracks are Wake up dead, Five magics (demo version) and the live version of Skin o' my teeth.

Disc 4 is a live concert recorded at wembley in 1990 and is flawless Megadeth, much better than any of their recent live releases and shows why Mustaine is one of the best technical guitarists out there. Disc 5 is a live dvd and captures the band with their classic line up of Mustaine, Dave Ellefson (bass), Marty Friedman (lead Guitar) and Nick Menza (drums). This is probaly when Megadeth were at their peak and it shows in this live performance of ten songs. The standout been Holy wars.

Warchest comes in a lovely package and features a superb booklet that contains a brief history and discography and a full list of every member that has played with the band.

So even if you have all the albums and greatest hits you MUST add Warchest to your collection as a lot of thought has gone into this release.

best compilation of everything MEGADETH!5
I have all of Megadeths 2004 re-issued albums and 2007 re-issued hidden treasures so to most people may find it pointless owning another Megadeth compilation need to think again as WARCHEST is the holy grail of all things Megadeth as Dave Mustaine must have spent many painful hours of what to include and does not dissappoint with the track set lists while the dvd of his bands live shows does not dissappoint.

this well and trurly deserves its five stars!
