Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
With A Girl Like Me, the Barbadian teen-queen Rihanna is looking to transfer all claims of royalty to the summertime pop charts. If anybody's going to rule them, she pretty much proclaims by way of "SOS," a song no less irresistible, intoxicating, and all-out cool than 2005's "Pon de Replay," off her debut, she's it. That's not to say this new disc is anything like its predecessor overall. Where Music of the Sun was mostly what its title suggests--a romp through an anglo-friendly island with no sunscreen required--A Girl Like Me is more reflective and a little rueful; you get the sense it was crafted in part to show her range, with executive producer Jay-Z guiding her through it gracefully. "Unfaithful" is a noir-ish testing of the R&B waters, and it goes so well that Rihanna wastes no time skinny-dipping her way into the deep end--"Final Goodbye," "P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)," and "A Million Miles Away" all betray juicy bits of Beyonce. Back in barefoot bikini-girl land, though--a territory that covers roughly half this disc--the party's still going strong. Rihanna gives dancehall legend Sean Paul a run for his money with the bouncing "Break It Off," and "We Ride" makes you want to roll down the windows and stick your head out the passenger side. Crank it up and keep the sunglasses handy. --Tammy La Gorce

CD Description
Swift follow-up from young Barbadan urban diva to her 2005 debut 'Music Of The Sun', which sold well on the back of thereggaeton-inflected, omnipresent radio smash 'Pon De Replay'. This second album features more infectious, Carribean influenced dance-pop, but is also influenced by rock music and includes songwriting contributions from RnB artist Ne-Yo, who wrote Mario's enormous smash hit 'Let Me Love You'. The single 'SOS', which samples Soft Cell's classic version of 'Tainted Love', is also included.

Nice Album4
This is the the type of album that you have to listen to a couple of times to get used to it, as i didn't like it at first. I love it now. It has some beautiful reggae tracks and she stays true to her beijan roots. (Rhianna is from Barbados, not America). SOS is a club hit, produced well. Unfaithfull is beautiful, and the res comprise of standard album tracks and well loved and very listenable songs.

Enjoy.

Not what I expected...3
Hey there.

Well... Rihanna's second offering, released only shortly after her first album. I must admit that I didn't buy her first album because at first I wasn't a huge fan of either her two single releases, 'Pon De Replay' and 'If It's Lovin' You Want'. However when I heard 'S.O.S', the first single from this album, and saw the glossy-Madonna-esque video I convinced myself that purchasing the new album would be a good investment, especially considering that she included the two singles from her debut album as bonus tracks.

Now to the actual review : I expected every track to be hit-after-hit, all in the same vain of 'S.O.S', however I'm dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible album by far, however there's too many ballads -- all sounding very much the same. The next single is rumoured to be, 'Unfaithful', probably the best ballad on the album. When Rihanna speeds things up she gets it right, for example, 'Break it Off' feat. Sean Paul is very good, very typical of Sean Paul's style. Also worth listening to are 'Kisses Don't Lie' and 'We Ride'.

The two bonus tracks help to salvage whats left of the album, 'Pon De Replay' proving itself a club classic. Rihanna - you're talented and beautiful : please stick to the more fast paced, club orientated anthems!

Wicked5
Brilliant CD - one of my favs at da mo. Always quite liked Rihanna's songs but "Unfaithful" prompted me to finally buy it. Compared to the other songs she's released off the album, the album itself is way better! Great range of styles and tempos. All round great performance with excellent vocals. Only song i don't like is SOS so if u thought that was good, you'll love the album coz its 10 time better!
