i thought i would put this up to help people who are thinking of buying the CDJ400s
It a story of good and bad,
The good: well they are great little dj cd players for the money, they feel good and have basicly the same layout as the top of the range CDJ1000s, the on board effects are great, very easy to use and they sound very good, also the new addition of a usb slot is very useful, you can plug memory sticks and even an ipods in to the slot and it works well

Now the bad: i have owned 2 of these units for 10 months, the first six months i have to say were trouble free,no problems, after that though they started freezing, first it was once in a while then it become more frequent, now at this prestent time they are freezing up everytime i use them, i get about 45mins use before it happens,

As a professional Dj i find this totaly unaceptable, any dj will tell you that a cd deck freezing up on you in a club or during a radio show is no laughing matter, makes you look a bit of a fool,

I believe a pioneer software update would fix this problem, but until they issue one I cant recommend these decks as they are just not reliable enough at the moment, my advice is go for the CDJ 800

Update: Dec08

Pioneer have updated the firmware for the cdj400s which at the moment have stopped all the freezing problems that I had (See above)
Fingers crossed they are working perfectly now, so I would definitely recommend the cdj400's at this point

Good little 'giggers'!4
These are great turntables if you're a DJ on the road. Be aware though the the platter is much smaller than that of the CDJ 800/1000, but if you require less music manipulation than that of club DJ's, then these are fantastic CDJ's. The USB slot is a great feature though - I try not to get 'too' used to them though, as the 1000's which I use regularly don't have one. The only thing I would say is that the Pitch Control doesn't have a guide on the side, which means making precise beat-matches can be difficult if you use visionary skills. People tend to use the digital BPM counter on the display, but this is poor practice in the long term.

If you want a good valued set of decks with the bells and whistles of it's bigger brothers, look no further!
