best tennis game i've ever played
i've played a few tennis games over the years and was always frustrated by the lack of control your player had, leading to not beating the cpu much.
with this game, i'm totally blown away. the graphics are amazing, even on a normal tv. the players actually look like who they are meant to be, and they have the players characteristics, too, federer standing shaking his head when he loses a point, nadal motioning to his face, for a towel, and so on. you can play both as male or female, although i've so far only played as male, even though i'm female!
the gameplay is so good, i can actually return a serve, and i can beat the cpu. you get the chance to start your career, bottom of the rankings and build your way up, you have to train on all parts of your game, serves, volleys, footwork, etc, by way of mini games which are quite fun. if you train too hard, you can get injured, my poor player broke his leg! with these additional features, it's such an in depth game, i've not played any like it before, although i'm not sure if these features are part of other tennis games, they're not on the ones i've played.
the more you advance in your career, the more options become available to you, new clothes, racquets, tournaments, both singles and doubles, so there's always something to strive for.
i'm not sure why a review here compares this game to the xbox version, that's pointless, not everyone will have both an xbox and ps3, and this is a review of the ps3 version, not the xbox version, so why compare? very poor reviewer in my opinion. not everyone has capabilities to play games online and if that's what you are looking for, why bother actually buying a game that doesn't offer that, and then complain afterwards? it's your own fault for not reading the specifications!
i'd definitely recommend this game to anyone who has a PS3, it's a must have game. i'd even recommend it to anyone who has been let down by tennis games in the past.
Easy to pick up and play, enjoyable, lacks online gaming.
Brilliant!!!
Got the game out, put it in the PS3, straight to multiplayer with my girlfriend. Neither of us particularly enjoy tennis, neither of us have played a Tennis game before but I was swung by some reviews of the game so bought it. Straight in and we're all over the court in some great rallies having brilliant fun, and trust me, it's hard to get a smile out of my girlfriend when playing the PS3!!!
It's so simple it's great. Obviously if you want to progress and become great at the game you need to master your timing and try and read players but for the pure fun factor I recommend it to all.
Career mode is a bit hit and miss. The mini games are good fun, but they can become a little tedious as all you do is play them! You also can't vary your player too much from the next! But who cares when the gameplay is soo great! It would have been nice to have more of a variety of players though as when you go to your first tournament and thrash Roddick it's a bit strange, could have had some amateurs etc to go through the career with you!
Pity the xbox 360 got the online gaming and the PS3 didn't, big letdown in my opinion and due to this and the constant mini games it has to be a 4/5. The games are great, don't get me wrong!, but they drag!
And to the person who slated the music, what are you on about? Ok, I admit it, it's bloody awful! I should have put in the first paragraph, put the disc in, goto options and turn off the music!
Great game and can see myself being addicted on it for a while!!!
Tennis at its best (well nearly!)
Around 20 players (even Taylor Dent!), oh heaven.
The thing is with tennis games, is that they have so little players and Virtua Tennis 3 brings it another step closer to perfection.
World Tour is better than Top Spin 1&2, but isn't near the standard of Smash Court Tennis 2.
SO:
I play Billions of Exhibition Matches and, SEGA have now realised they have sets in tennis, so 5 setters, 5 setters. COOL.
Plus, it is pretty easy to get the hang of, and me and me mate won tournament mode doubles on hard difficulty after not long playing.
Court games are pretty fun aswell but:
Where are the 1000+ Players (doubles included)
Where is the Accurate World Tour Mode
Where is the Brilliant Edit mode
Where is ANDY MURRAY! (There is Tim!)
So no 5 star but definately one of the best PS3 games out there.
