Wow5
One word. Wow. I knew that from the 2nd me and my brother on co-op stepped onto the field as the Cavs, went up against the celtics and were 10 - 2 down inside 2 mins. The game ended up being a 20 point defeat but all that I could think after playing was "£40 well spent". NBA 2K7 was great. NBA 2K8 (and I know some will hate me for saying this but anyway) was a slight disappointment. Lock on D was far too easy. NBA 2K9 hasn't just raised the bar, its put it so high that no one can see it any more.

Let's get to the game itself then. Gameplay has been much improved. No longer can you just run to the ball handler and get an easy steal or put him under any pressure. That's what me and my bro tried to do for the first quarter. The end result was Rondo would dribble up the field, our 2 guards charged him, he threw it to Allen and Allen drained 6 consecutive threes due to no pressure. If you lose your man on this game your going to pay. A second improvement is that stars are realistic. Gone are the days where you restrict McGrady to 8 pts or something. The game has finally recognised that certain players (Bryant, Wade and especially LeBron) are virtually impossible to defend against and will score past you. Much like in the real NBA you have to accept that. Sure you can stop them scoring but if you give them an inch they will beat you. I don't want this to sound like a disadvantage because your stars are similarly good but it makes the game play out as a real game would.

Other fine improvements are the fast paced nature of games where your players will dive on lose balls, the AI will score fast breaks and there are less stupid things happening (like the AI trying to lay up from behind the back board). Lay ups are now realistically makeable so don't worry about having a fast break lay up missing that often and the Lock on D control has been greatly improved.

The AI of the opposition has been stepped up as well to the point where the computer resembles human players. The computer adjusts its defensive schemes to cover frequent plays your using. I scored over 20 pts in the first half with LeBron but mid way through the 3rd quarter the computer started double and tripple teaming me. In those 2 minutes (before I passed to other players to stoip this happening) LeBron scored 0 points and turned the ball over twice.

The in game visuals are great as well. The crowd reacts to your performance and players look life like.

I'm unable to comment on Online play at the moment as I have decided to train some more before I humiliate myself. However I do know there are frequent roster updates available just like the ones in Live.

Out of 10 this game is a 10 and I would certainly recommend buying this over NBA Live 09. This game is the benchmark all future NBA games should be judged against.

One of the greatest sports games ever5
First things first - I am from England am not, not now or ever, been a Basketball fan. However 2k are might fine games makers, and I thought I would try this game out to see what all the hoo-ha is about.

GOOD POINTS:-
=============
+ Truly breathtaking brilliant HD graphics system
+ Most player likenesses are spot on, including the way they play
+ Menu system has been redesigned and is easier than ever to use
+ Music and sound effects are top notch
+ Easy to play, difficult to maser - difficulty curve is perfect
+ Brilliant TV style presentation

BAD THINGS:-
============
- Online (at the moment) is not the greatest. Still a bit glitchy.
- No real new modes. Pretty much the same as NBA 2k8.

OVERALL:- NBA 2k9 irons out nearly all the flaws and faults of NBA 2k9 and is the king of the basketball games. Even if you are not into American sports/basketball this game is worth a look just for the grandeur of it and the whole TV style presentation. Truly, a sporting great. This is the benchmark now for ALL sports games.

NBA 2K9 - THE basketball game to have4
hey. what a great game. looks fantastic and plays really well too. ok this is far more sim than arcade but it really does dunk all over the far too easy, no defence NBA LIVE 09. NB2k9 has amazing atmosphere and controls to suit all levels of play, as well as customisable difficulty levels for all shots etc. The mini games include a dunk and 3 point comp and really add to this. The simulation and realism is spot-on and its only faults are maybe the presentation at times and the emotionless player faces. A steal at £20 and a real fans game with good online updating, player specific moves and some great season modes. One for the fan indeed. I can wholeheartedly recommend this without doubt over LIVE 09 and advise anyone who remotely likes basketball to give this a go.
