A STUNNING TITLE TRACK
If you think Billy Ray is just about the played to death hit Achey Breaky Heart, you would be very very wrong. Whilst this CD may not be as strong as his debut album (Some Gave All) which contained the said track, it is worth every penny just for the opening and title track 'Trail Of Tears' This is the story of the plight of the Cherokee Nation on their journey known as 'The Trail of Tears'. Arranged with a Bluegrass rhythm (And I am not a fan of Bluegrass by and large), it sucks you in from the opening bars and keeps you firmly hooked straight through to the closing notes. (If you want to find out more about the imfamous Trail of Tears, I suggest you read the excellent history of the Native American Indian by Dee Brown, entitled 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee'). The album is a mixture of self penned tracks and covers. The most notable covers are 'Sing Me Back Home' (A Merle Haggard classic); Harper Valley P.T.A (Tom.T Hall), famously covered by Dolly Parton, and Crazy Mama (J.J. Cale)
