The tiny island of Tobago, it's shores washed by both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, lies 21 miles to the north-east of Trinidad, and with Trinidad forms the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
Tobago's marvellous climate and the relaxed lifestyle of its inhabitants, contribute to its popularity as an ideal tourist destination, both with long haul passengers from Europe and America but also with weekenders and vacationers from Trinidad.
Tobago though is not just an island of golden beaches and warm seas (although it has its abundance of those) it is also a place steeped in folklore and custom derived from its mainly African population, and rich in history, a history which has often been troubled.
This guide forms an essential island tour, educating the reader about the history and culture of the island as well as the best places to see and explore. The guide will offer you an insight into the lives of Tobagonians from the time of the Amerindians through the settlement of Europeans to modern day Tobago.
This is a Macmillan Caribbean Guide, and is part of a series that covers most of the Caribbean, island by island, to allow in depth coverage of culture and history as well as a fabulous introduction to each island.
