"There is this guy Eminem. He has created a sense of what is possible. He has sent a voltage around a generation. He has done this not just through his subversive attitude but also his verbal energy." - Seamus Heaney, Nobel Prize Winner in Literature A decade ago, Eminem exploded onto the world with The Slim Shady LP, introducing millions of people to his addictive rhymes, just don't give a f*** attitude, and trailer trash style. Since then he has sold more than 70 million records, reeled in four Grammys and even won an Oscar. Now he has a new record slated for release later in 2008. The Way I Am is Eminem at his best: funny, raw, and disarmingly honest as he reflects on the people, places, and events that have made him who he is today. With never-before-published photographs, artifacts, and mementos from his life, Eminem shares some stories about a childhood bouncing from school to school, his struggles to support his young family on Detroit's East Side, the challenges of learning the rap game, and what his daily life is like now. The Way I Am also showcases Eminem's songs, with in-depth discussions of his writing process and his work in the studio with Dr. Dre. Original lyric sheets for hits such as "Lose Yourself" and "Stan" are printed as facsimiles in the book along with loads of personal snapshots and Polaroids, original illustrations by Eminem himself, concert flyers, a visual tour of the star's Detroit haunts, and behind-the-scenes photos of concerts and life on the road.

Most worthwhile purchase of my year
This book is absolutely brilliant.
If you're a fan this is an absolute must. I think anyone whether a fan or not would be intruiged to get inside the head of Em and you really feel you can with this book.
Before I bought it I thought it would be a basic story of his life but I was so pleased to find out that it's not like that at all. Most people who would call themselves a fan know his story pretty much backwards and if that's all you want you can find it in a million places on the internet.
This is so much more than that though. He really explains his feelings and thoughts throughout major events in his life. It's not at all contrived and it really is as though he's speaking directly to you. The writing itself is well put together and is a lot of the time funny as well.
For me this is without a doubt the best book of the year. Buy it. You'll love it.
Great book, Written by greatest ever rapper.
This book takes you into the life of the worlds greatest rapper. All a can say is buy it if u are a fan. This is a 5/5 book great must have.
So good its framed and above my bed!!!!
You can tell from the off that this is really written by him. Its a fascinating read (even tho being a devoted fan I new a lot of the stuff already). You're really taken into the minds of Eminem, Marshall Mathers and of course Slim Shady. Although it doesnt go into some parts of his life in great detail you are spoilt for entertaining reading, ranging from origional lyric notes to his deepest thoughts and feelings and never before seen pictures of Em and his Shady family. It looks like Em can connect to people through books as well as songs. The only critism I have (and I was hard pushed to find one) is that its a tad to short. Enjoyed every minute of it tho!
