Amazon.co.uk Review
The "cell phone thriller" is becoming a genre unto itself, and Eagle Eye should be considered a key example of the form. Frankly preposterous but compulsively watchable, this movie puts Shia LaBeouf in a mess of trouble instigated by a mysterious telephone voice. If he doesn't follow orders, dire things will happen--although when he does follow orders, the consequences are pretty dire, anyway. Also being blackmailed is a single mom (Michelle Monaghan) receiving similar phone calls. Why are they being jerked around by the purring female voice, and why is the road leading to Washington, D.C.? Actually, you won't have time to contemplate these questions, because director D.J. Caruso (who guided LaBeouf in Disturbia) keeps the action going at the customary breakneck pace. This is a wise move, because the real questions you'd likely be asking have to do with the plausibility of events on a minute-by-minute basis (most notably: how could Mysterious Phone Voice possibly know that the two pigeons would survive the hoops she makes them fly through, each one more death-defying than the last?). The actors tumble through this mayhem like scattering bowling pins, including Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson as government agents. Nobody has time to make much of an impression, and LaBeouf has much less room for puppydog charm than he did in Disturbia. Even that would be all right within the movie's berserk parameters, but the really irritating thing is the way the tacked-on final scenes reverse what would have been a heroic climax. No guts, no glory. --Robert Horton
Synopsis
After the success of Disturbia, director D.J. Caruso and star Shia LaBeouf reunite for this thriller costarring Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thornton. In Eagle Eye, an elaborate murder plot and its evil conspirator ensnare a pair of innocent people.

Ridiculous but great fun!
`Eagle Eye' stars Shia Le Boeuf as Jerry, whose twin brother mysteriously dies. When he gets home after the funeral, he finds that he has been framed as a terrorist and even worse, becomes part of an assassination plot. He is helped by a mysterious woman who he has never met, but who seems to know his every move and can contact him using anybody's mobile phone.
This film is absolutely ridiculous and so unbelievable but at the same time is great fun and very exciting. It has all of the elements of a great spy thriller in the same style as Enemy of the State and the Bourne films. Shia Le Boeuf is excellent and is definitely one of the best new rising stars to look out for at the moment. The film doesn't have one slow moment and is literally non-stop suspense and excitement from start to finish. I recommend turning your brain off for two hours, sit back and enjoy! Probably not worth a full price purchase but a highly recommended rent.
The Blu Ray transfer is also superb and this is definitely the format to watch it on!
DO NOT READ STEPHEN STEWART'S REVIEW - SPOILER!!
I had to put this in as I was just browsing Amazon and thinking of buying this movie so I read the user reviews. Unfortunately, Stephen Stewart's review of 24th Jan contains a spoiler which completely ruins the film, so I won't be buying it now. Mr. Stewart, if you really are a "Critic Extraordinaire", as you call yourself, you should be able to write a review skillfully enough to avoid a spoiler.
An action packed mixture of "Enemy of the State" meets "War Games".
Shia Labeouf teams up once again with director D.J. Caruso ("Disturbia") for this explosive roller coaster ride of action and tension that from the start has you watching in anticipation to see how the story plays out.
The story is focussed on two strangers who are forced into a tense and violent situation when they become pawns in a major game of cat and mouse (they being the mice, and the government being the cats). They don't know what's happening, but do know that if they don't comply their loved ones are at risk. Shia Labeouf plays "Jerry", a confident, quick thinking fast talker (as like all his other films) who is unwillingly thrown into a terrorist plot. Jerry is stalked with the emotional strain of his family relationships, and in particular his relationship with his brother Ethan. Michelle Monaghan plays a Para-legal single mum who's blackmailed in helping Jerry to what ends...no-one knows?
And so it begins, one trail of quick escapes, adrenaline rush chases and the committed Billy Bob Thorton playing FBI agent Morgan tracking down the escaped duo and trying to make sense of this bizarre string of events. With a strict political presence, terrorist threats imminent and 101 other things in the mix, the sophisticated defence computer is a major player in resolving all the loose ends.
I found the style and resemblance to this movie similar to Enemy of the State, with the surveillance style of gadgetry utilised in tracking down movements and locations. The filming is fast, as is the action, and this movie totally is a non-stop race with twists and turns at every corner.
It's a clever technological driven movie, that drives forward with such pace that it's worth watching and definitely an edge of your seat watch.
