Amazon.co.uk Review
Nature’s Great Events takes up the mantle left by the stunning BBC series Planet Earth, and offers a closer look at some of the most fascinating and dramatic natural happenings on the planet. Narrated by David Attenborough, it digs in some detail into the impact on nature of certain events, and manages to hone in on small stories in the midst of major happenings. It’s a breathtaking cocktail.
What particularly lifts Nature’s Great Events too is the stunning photography. Those who recall Planet Earth will recall just how superb the shots within that frequently were, but if anything, Nature’s Great Events tops it. The cinematography here is world-class, and it greatly enhances the series around it as a result.
That said, there’s more than enough substance to Nature’s Great Events as it stands anyway. Diligently made and researched, and presented in an accessible, yet not condescending manner, it’s another major success for the BBC in this area, and further cements why it’s a world leader where natural history documentaries are concerned.
Credit must go too for the decision to include the making-of material. Back when the BBC broadcast The Blue Planet, these were often just as interesting as the main feature itself, and the same is true here. It’s a genuinely fascinating insight into the production of such an ambitious, and unmissable, series. --Jon Foster
Synopsis
Witness the planet's most breathtaking natural events, and follow the dramatic wildlife stories behind them. Combining the epic cinematography of Planet Earth, with all the emotion, intimacy and storytelling of a wildlife diary, this series charts the effects of global climatic phenomena which transform entire landscapes, drawing in thousands of animals and determining their fate.
Whereas Planet Earth gave us a global view, Nature's great events delves into the more personal, emotionally engaging approach. Nature's great events brings us the same high definition quality and 'wow factor' images we've come to associate with PLANET EARTH.

Amazing... Spectacular... Brilliant!!!
I loved every bit of this series!! I couldn't get enough of it after watching the first episode on BBC 1. My favourite episode was number 5: The Great Flood in the Okavango; I thought it was wonderful when all the animals went running into the grassy water and how this huge flood goes on over the horizon. Picture quality is amazing on both Blu-ray and DVD. Also, at the end of each episode, it gives you about 10 minutes of a diary; showing how the crew actually film the animals in their environment. I love animals, so seeing all of these great events that this planet has to offer is just breathtaking...
As good or even better then Planet Earth!!!
Just received this copy and watched it and this is probably better then Planet Earth by BBC. First of all on standard DVD format the picture quality is just fantastic. The stories are entertaining, and it has the informative diaries at the end of each program showing how they made it which is just as interesting as the real feature. Great DVD, get it so they make more of these!!
Even better than Planet Earth
I didn't have high expectations for this series in terms of writing or story telling. It was a sure bet that the photography would be immaculate but I was weary that images might have drowned any attempts at intelligent story-telling. From the first 5 min of watching the first programme I knew that there was nothing to worry about. On the contrary - this is one of the strongest sequel-type shows the BBC Natural History Unit has produced in recent years. Outstanding writing, mesmerising images and well, how can you go wrong with a narration by David Attenborough. Well done to the production team!
