Amazon.co.uk Review
Tottenham MC Chipmunk made his name on the London grime scene, but going on his debut album I Am Chipmunk, this talented young rapper has self-confidence in Jay-Z proportions. "God told me I’m the best", he raps on the opening "Saviour", as operatic voices chorus grandly in approval. It’s true, though, that while Chipmunk--real name Jahmaal Noel Fyfe--might still be deep in his teens, he’s got a ear for writing crossover pop-grime with the mainstream appeal to make an impressive dent in the charts. "Chip Diddy Chip" and the ska-tinted “Diamond Rings”, featuring an earworm chorus from female vocalist Emeli Sande, show off Chipmunk’s easy charisma and rapid-fire MCing. Deeper into I Am Chipmunk, though, our 18-year-old host takes care to show off his range. "Lose My Life" is a trance-tinged pop track featuring fellow chart-toppers N-Dubz, "Man Dem" finds Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder trading verses on a vintage grime rhythm, and the likes of "Dear Family" and "Role Model" prove our young MC knows to balance ambition with a little humility.--Louis Pattison

CD Description
I AM CHIPMUNK is the debut album from Chipmunk - the man behind singles "Chip Diddy Chip" and "Diamond Rings" as well as "Oopsy Daisy". Over a year in the making, Chipmunk finished I AM CHIPMUNK once he left college after his A-Level exams. Whether talking about the break-up of his parent’s marriage, the realities of life in inner-city London or his all-consuming love of music, the diverse and imaginative debut features collaborations with N-Dubz and production from renowned underground beatmakers Maniac and StarzBeatz. Expect an array of sounds; from gritty grime to pop-tinted R&B. "Oopsy Daisy" is a brilliant upbeat ballad about a break-up, while the soaring synths of "Lose My Life", co-starring Tulisa from N-Dubz, is a metaphor for Chipmunk’s approach to music-making.

INCREDIBLE!5
This is an incredible album: one of the best to come from a UK artist in many many years!

It is perfect and a must buy!

Grime and Shine4
For a young lad barely out of school Jahmaal Noel Fyffe
(aka Chipmunk) has got talent and attitude aplenty.
He also has a sense of humour. No bad thing in a yoof.

His debut 'I Am Chipmunk' has a bit of a split musical
personality. I mean this in a good way. The album
certainly mixes up a whole big bunch of current urban
styles without losing credibility. It's a rich mix.

Whether demonstrating the pared-down, grimier side of life,
('Man Dem' featuring Mr Stryder); swinging out with a
lovely piece of pure incandescent pop (The chorus of
'Oopsy Daisy' is delightfully memorable!); or baring his soul
in candid autobiography (The tender and starkly revealing
'Dear Family'), Mr Fyffe brings a light touch and a
distinctive voice to his labours.

Other joys include : 'Lose My Life' a full-bodied and
boisterous collaboration with N-Dubz and 'Sometimes',
a cracking composition which deserves five stars all its own.

It looks like he's on his way to the big
time and more than probably deserves it.

Recommended.
