Product Description

Wolfenstein brings the Nazi's dark obsession with the occult to life with epic action and harrowing shooter combat. Use a powerful arsenal of both definitive and occult-enhanced Axis and Allied weapons to beat back a supernatural Nazi force that is full of surprises.

You play as BJ Blazkowicz, a highly decorated member of the Office of Secret Actions (OSA). You are sent on a special mission into the heart of the Reich to investigate evidence that the Nazis may possess a new and mysterious power.

While behind enemy lines, you discover the Nazis have done much more than develop a new toy. The Nazis are harnessing the power of the Black Sun through a dark parallel dimension called The Veil, in order to create a weapon of war-ending mass destruction. You are the only one that can stop them and save the world from their perverse domination.

some good, some bad3
I've played the entire single player game through to completion, including all optional missions (took about 10 hours over 3 days) and spent (wasted) some time on multiplayer.

First, the good. Single-player is generally classic Wolfenstein with occult Nazi stuff. The sound/graphics are pretty good, as are the level designs and cut scenes. You will go from train stations, an entire town, mnay different buildings, a castle and ultimately... well, I won't spoil the ending. There are 8 weapons and many hidden items to collect for achievements. The "gimmick" this time is "veil powers" that allow you do several things...
1) run faster and see hidden stuff (such as holes in walls) or hidden ladders
2) slow down time so you can dodge bullets and the like
3) create a shield which deflects enemy bullets
4) sort of become "enraged", so your shots become more accurate and super-deadly
Most veil powers only last a few seconds, you then have to go find a "recharge point" or wait several minutes for timed-recovery - and here-in lies the problem. These recharge points can be exasperating to find at times, and become more of a chore to use at the end, when the last few bosses simply "don't play fair".

Next, the bad. Multi-player. Say goodbye to the nice single-player graphics, say goodbye to much choice in game types. All you get is team death match, a team speed race and a team objective game. "Veil powers" are also added to multi-player, but they're next to useless. It's pretty laggy at times compared to other alternatives and feels unfinished, even selecting your class (of 3) and weapon (of 5, which can be upgraded slightly) is a chore due to a clunky menu screen.

good but not quite great...4
well just finished playing. as an experienced shooter fanatic i wouldnt put this up there with the likes of COD4 or WAW,but its alot better than some of the rubbish of late i.e call of juarez, fear 2 ect.

graphically its really nice on my 42inch full hd, but also played it on my standard def tv and its not so pretty without the hd bit.

soundwise i have a pair of turtle beach x1 headphones and the sound is awsome. for example when u shoot a nazi get him in the face or throat and you get some very realistic gurgles as he dronws on his own blood.
i also found the story quite intriguing and i wasnt forced to skip any cutscenes as in alot of FPS.
I like the shooting mechanics also,if you like realism this has it, if you shoot a nazi with a sniper rifel you get an explosion of blood and he may loose his head ect, shoot him in the leg and he'l loose a leg... morbid you might think but im frankly fed up of games whithout any realism at all... it is an 18 cert so be warned.
theres also a nice bit of customizing available for all weapons and powers if you can be bothered searching around for gold.

onto the bad bits; the story revolves around a city which i cant pronounce and you get missions which involve running around the same old streets shootin the same old people. which does get a bit boring after a while, the aforementioned castle wolfenstein does make a brief appearence at the end.

also the game is very easy even on hard difficulty i found it pretty easy. also it is very short around 8 hours if you dont stop and read every bit of intel.

overall:

good game if you want to pass some time until Batman Arkham Assylum or Modern Warfare 2, but with little or no replay value and a pretty dull multiplayer if ya can rent this rather than buy it.

Get killing Nazis!4
This shooter is great fun and the graphics are excellent. The plot is Nazi killing with some supernatural shenanigans thrown in. There's plenty of weapons and upgrades, with some well put together setpieces.

I found the game gripping - I've completed a third of it in less than a day, and I don't play games too often, and that's because it's hard to put down. Good stuff.
