Manufacturer's Description
The battle for the city is won in the canyon as Need for Speed Carbon immerses you in the world's most dangerous and adrenaline-filled form of street racing. For the first time in a Need for Speed game, build a crew and race in an all-out war for your city against rival crews and opposing car classes. You'll risk everything to take over rival neighbourhoods one street at a time.
Each crew member has unique skills that you trigger during races to give you the winning edge over opponents. Call on a Blocker to create a distraction and slow down other racers or a Scout to lead you to shortcuts on the track. As the police turn up the heat and force the races to the outskirts of the city, the battle ultimately shifts to Carbon Canyon, where territories and reputations can be lost on every perilous curve.
Use your creativity to design your crew's cars with the revolutionary new Autoscuplt car customization tool that gives you the power to turn every vehicle into the car you've always wanted. Represent your car class, your crew, and your streets in Need for Speed Carbon, the next revolution in racing games
Survive the Canyon: Leave the streets to battle rival bosses in the canyons outside the urban centre. All-new Canyon Duel and Drift race modes are the ultimate test of skill and nerve, where one wrong turn could cost you more than the race.
The City Is Yours for the Taking: Race for control of the city block-by-block by taking down rival crews on their turf, then defeat their crew leaders in life-or-death races in Carbon Canyon.
Customize Your Dream Car: The revolutionary new Autosculpt car customization tool Gives you the power to design and morph your car in every way imaginable.
Represent a Class: Affiliate with the Tuner, American Muscle, or Exotic car classes and prove once and for all who makes the best set of wheels. A new physics model makes each car handle and drive differently.
Build Your Crew: Strategically choose your crew members and use their skills on the road and in your garage to help you win races and customize your cars. Designate any member of your crew as a wingman and trigger his special skill to knock out your rivals.
Over 50 Real-World Licensed Cars: Every car is tuneable so you can customize their look and performance to suit your crew.

Great fun, but easily beatable
Whilst in Hong Kong last week my brother ended up buying a playstation 3 and 'Need For Speed Carbon'. After a slight problem with controller settings (simple to change to how you like for the game) we got underway.
There's a great variety of races and definitely one that will challenge you to some extent, but at points you will find them extremely easy. The trickiest are probably the drifting style (what the film 'the fast & the furious - Tokyo drift' was based on) where you have to stay in control for as long as possible drifting around corners gaining points, and the canyon runs, where you have to chase a "boss" down a winding road staying as close as possible and then swapping roles but this time trying to escape. However frustrating you find those races though, you can easily stop and jump to a different race.
At the end of some races you also end up in a police chase and have to escape which can be quite amusing as there are a few interactive pieces that can help you crush (literally) the police cars as you're speeding along.
Gaining territories of a city is what the game is all about, and once you start to you begin to receive cash rewards, upgrades for you car and new cars. All these come in handy as you progress, although you could probably cope with just using four or five different cars throughout the whole game.
Whilst you're busy trying to win over these territories you get introduce to new crew members which can help you in certain races, some block other cars, some show you short cuts and some provide you with some slipstream. Not all are useful, but it's a nice added touch.
Quite a few different modes (not all that I've actually tried as we've not hooked it up to the internet) to have a go at, and a decent multiplayer option.
If you want a decent street racing game with great graphics it's well worth checking out, however, don't be surprised if you've completed the career mode and challenge series within a couple of days. We managed to finish it yesterday (Saturday) afternoon having set the PS3 up on Thursday morning. There are still a few extra things within the game to find and do, but it seems the game will probably have a short lifespan.
Oh, and the loading times aren't bad at all either, although the game is constantly asking you whether you want to save your progress (probably a good thing, but it gets annoying).
Not one of the best, but...
Not one of the best Need for Speed games, I've played.
But it dose have some nice fetures like the police hot pusute, terottory controls and team racing.
First thing you will notice is that the grapics and sound are like out of a ps2 game, and this could be improved, if the develepers taken more care.
The secound thing you will notice is the button configuration is not like other racing games or even some of the other need for speed games.
So this was quite frustrating, as I am use to hitting X rather than R2.
But this could easly be changed in config.
3rd thing I noticed was the control was a bit stiff compare to need for speed underground 2.
Part from these 3 bad points in the game.
The game as lots to offer for the need for speed fans.
I, my self have become exicted when getting chanced by the police in a hot pussuite.
The game has hot pusute in free roming and in the middle of the race when the aera your in becomes hot.
Boss race of after taking control of most of the rival gang aera.
Break cam, so you can drive in slow motion for a short time while trying to avoide sticky sitasion.
And with online play there is no need to sign in or up to play online unlike underground 2.
But I', guessing thats because you login from the ps3 when you boot up your machine (Signing up to ps3 network)
No need for speed?!
I bought this as a game to play whilst waiting for GT5. I wish I hadn't.
The graphics are straight from the PS2.
Handling is VERY unrealistic.
Almost every race feels the same.
All the cars drive roughly the same with almost no difference in handling.
All in all, I am very upset at having spent so much money. PS3 games aren't the cheapest in the world. I think perhaps this is a game that is definately aimed at the younger (MUCH younger, and I'm only in my 20's!!) audience.
Excuse the pun... steer clear of ths one!!
