Makes sense of planning
We've been trying to get planning permission for some time and I couldn't understand why we weren't being successful when others seem to be. This book has shown me why. It makes it all seem so simple but it really is a game. I thought planning was all about rules but it's really about playing the system. If you want to understand planning get this book. It certainly makes sense and hopefully as a result of its advice we'll get permission this time!
Definitely not disappointed
We bought this book having had a problem with our local planners and found it really useful. It has loads of inside information and we learned so much about how the system works and what we can do to help increase our chance of getting what we want. It doesn't tell you how to withdraw an application but I'm certain one phone call to the town hall will tell you that. What it does give you is clear information on things like permitted development rights and how planners work and what you can do to increase your schemes chance of succeeding. We feel much more confident as a result of reading the book and that's worth £15.95 without any doubt.
Disappointed
I had high hopes for this book, especially following the very positive review above. However once I read the book I found that it contained very little that I did not already know - and I am no planning expert, having made two prior applications for domestic extensions. It claims to be an insider's guide which I would say is not accurate as in my opinion less than 1% of the information is actually inside information. I found that I had to do alot of reading before I actually found a new fact to absorb. The only point of value to me was the fact that once you see that your application is going to be rejected, you can withdraw your application and escape the black mark upon your property. Even then, it was not clear exactly how and when you go about withdrawing your application.
I hoped for more inside tricks about how to get planning on agricultural land, what type of properties are suitable for development and how to maximise your chances - such as leaving properties in a mess, or clearing them before applying, how to get planning permission to build on your garden etc.
