Not enough fault finding
A lot of the book is taken up with bog standard items like pipe sizing, flues, health and safety, pipe freezers and "What is a Combi boiler" If you are CORGI registered you will know all of this and have a certificate to prove it. On a positive note the section on Fault Finding & Repair is brilliant, this guy knows his subject, I am disapointed, I would have liked more of it (fault finding)and less padding.
Not as expected
As previously mentioned, this book is padded out with basic gas knowledge. I find it quite frightening that this book looks like it is trying to teach basic gas knowledge to a novice. I am a recently qualified gas engineer, and I learned all this in collage. The key to combi fault finding is using a Multimeter. This book discourages the use of a multimeter unless trained to do so. However it seems to suggest it is OK to work on gas without any knowledge! We did basic combi fault finding in collage, and we where shown how to use a multimeter, which was invaluable. This book has a small section on fault finding principles, and logical approach to finding a fault. It also tells you what each component does. Sometimes I was wondering what I was learning. I intend to go on a combi fault finding course to improve my skills, and of course I will be using a multimeter!
Helping Hand
I purchased this book specifically to help with a problem that I had with my combi-boiler and was money well spent. An hour or so reading the relevant sections of the book bought enlightenment to my problem, very good.
