Customer Reviews
A Hauntingly Beautiful Experience
From the beginning the listener is transported by the haunting quality of this instrument whose name literally means "heart strings".Accompanied by the subtle tabla of Patho Mukherjee this album is like a mughal musical gem. There is a sense of serenity underlying the work which is very apparent in the first track Ahiri Todi. The second track Dhani opens with a lovely alaap slowly leading us to a tabla imrovisation which Shrivastav skillfuly weaves into a complex and gentle exposition of the mood of late afternoon. The swaramandel is delicately used to colour this piece with its rainbow sound.Track 3 has some exciting tabla and bowing techniques.Track 4 Sampurna Malkauns which is an after mid-night raga is a seductive melody that draws the listener into a dreamlike state.Track 5 is suffused with a feeling of utter devotion to whatever is your object of inspiration. What other Indian musician uses silence so skillfully as a part of their music to emphasise their work? On this album there are Ragas to take you through the mood of the whole day and enhance every minute of it. Magic.
