TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver review
I have had this product for about 4 years. It has two lights, a green LED to show when the device is switched on and charged, this flashes while it is aquiring satellites. The other LED is either orange, to show it is charging, or red which means that the battery is low.
I use it with TomTom on a Nokia mobile phone and once it connects to the Nokia the light starts flashing as it picks up satellites. It successfully finds these much faster than my Road Angel but not as fast as a dedicated SatNav such as a Garmin. Occasionally I have had to switch it off and on again before it starts this process, but I have noticed this is when the phone is low on battery, if it is fully charged before trying to connect it works flawlessly. The battery life seems really good too. When in use the GPS receiver is in one of my dashboard trays (Passat) so is secure and out of sight and works just fine. The orientation of the receiver seems to have no effect on how well it works. If TomTom is ended on the phone then the GPS receiver will automatically power down to save battery.
Good when it works
I have had one of these for just under a year. It was excellent to start with. I used it in the UK, Europe and in the USA and it worked fine.
But now it struggles to connect at all. Sometime the TTFF is about 10mins instead of it's original 30seconds. But doesn't connect at all 60% of the time, which has left me in the lerch...
