Manufacturer's Description

PlayStation 3 brings advanced next-generation technology to home console hardware, realised through the combination of Cell and RSX processors.

With the Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed 80GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the Playstation Network.

Equipped with basic input/output ports, PlayStation 3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering PS3 owners the joy of the most advanced computer home entertainment content with the new DualShock 3 Controller as standard. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PlayStation 3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

Top console, great game5
I have owned and XBox 360 for about 3 years now and have been very happy with it. I decided to buy a PS3 last week as Blu-Ray has always appealed to me but was slightly hesitant after hearing the Playstation Network was poorly organized. Microsoft currently charge £40 per year for their online services and i always thought it was worth paying the extra for a well designed online mode. Playstation Network is free and i can honestly say that i can't notice a difference between the two systems in the quality of service provided.

Generally i'm very happy with my PS3. Its the complete media experience and it has so many cool features. Motion sensitive controllers, Blu-Ray, Playstation Home and a range of fantastic games are just a few of the positive points.

Now onto Killzone. I bought this bundle after hearing how much hype Killzone had been given and felt that it should be a decent first game for me. When i first put the disc in the system i was amazed at the glorious graphics and was extremely impressed with the control system. The A.I seemed smart and adopted different tactics to fit in with your style of play. I couldn't get over the fact though that it had all been done before. Looking past the superb presentation was just your regular FPS. I will NEVER go by my first impressions again! As i moved through the main story i was shocked at just how much it seemed to change. All of a sudden i was thrown into huge fire fights against enemies that seemed to always know my next move. I found myself scampering through battle zones searching for any bit of cover i could find. All of this in glorious HD and probably the best graphical experience i have ever witnessed.

After a couple of days play i decided to try the online mode. Again, my first impressions were somewhat a disappointment. Again, great graphics and well sized maps but i couldn't shake the feeling that i was playing just another online shooter. After an hours play my opinion changed totally and i was loving the online experience almost as much as Call Of Duty 4. Great maps, well designed weapons and a good matchmaking system make this game a joy to play. I have played about 100 games and have yet to find one where there has been bag LAG, making it unplayable.

Overall, top console and a great game to match. Buy it now!!!

Finally bought one!4
I have been thinking about buying a PS3 for over a year now. In November 2007 I bought myself an Xbox 360 Elite, it was a decision I didn't take lightly after looking into the 'console war' for months I finally went with the Xbox and shelled out £300 on the Elite because of all the problems with RROD that the other versions of the console were having. Apparently, these problems were put right for the release of the Elite, like I say, apparently!

After a month of fantastic play on my Xbox it suddenly went dead in the middle of playing Halo 3, nothing I could do would turn it back on, so, I rang up and it was replaced within a month, the service was great, a brand new Elite, not sure what went wrong with the old one.

Anyway, I then had a fantastic years worth of playing it, and, I must say it was fantastic, so pleased I went with Xbox, but, like I say it was only a year. In February this year (2009) my Xbox Elite suddenly decided it was going to get the 'Red Ring Of Death', one day after my Warranty expired, much to my annoyance. I contacted Xbox and they decided to repair it free of charge which was good. It is now at the repair centre being repaired, but, a week after it went down I decided to buy myself this PS3 with Killzone 2, because spending £300 on a machine like the Xbox and having to have it repaired/replaced twice in a year, I had simply had enough.

I now have my PS3 and I gotta say it is superb, it looks fantastic and is a lot lot quieter than the Xbox, in fact, it makes the same kind of noise as my Panasonic Cinema System, which is basically, non-existent. The Killzone 2 game doesn't really do much for me, I'm not totally convinced by it, graphically it is amazing, probably the best I've seen, but, the controls are annoying and it isn't much different to a lot of other FPS games.

To compare the two consoles I decided to rent one of my two obsessions, COD World At War to play online, COD4 being my other, and, apart from the controller there is no difference at all in my opinion. I heard about lag online with the PS3 because it was free, but, I gotta say I haven't had any and connecting to games is quicker than with the Xbox for me. One thing I really miss from Xbox is the option to block people who are not on your friends list, listening to some of the rubbish being spouted while in the lobby is annoying as hell, but, you can always mute them when the game starts.

In hindsight I kind of wished I had gone for the PS3 a year ago saving me £300, and I will definitely be sticking with the PS3 when my Xbox returns, but, the Xbox is so good I won't be able to resist going on it for games like Halo etc. which aren't available on the PS3.

Basically, if I was choosing a console now, I would go for the PS3 now I know there is no real difference between the two when it comes to gaming for my own needs, but, mainly due to Xbox's lack of reliability. This version of the PS3 is a good price because of the game included and if you don't like the game, like myself (although I know a lot of others think it's great) you can always sell it.

A Good Looking, quiet machine....5
My husband had been nagging me for this version and of course his little army games....'You just don't understand we men have to have this' he wailed....oh ok not as bad as I make him out to be....lol

But he eventually got it and haven't heard a peep from him since. My advice is to the women out there, get your man the PS3 and with the games of his choice and you will find peace returns to your household. Unless you want the bathroom re-tiling, buy him it AFTER it is finished and not before, that was my first mistake....sigh
My second mistake was having a go myself and finding that I loved it. The graphics and play of the game is awesome, much better than I remember from years ago. Now I have to wait for it to become free to sneak on...I fear one is not enough.....lol
Much better by far than the xbox. I just wished they would make Kula World for PS3....I would be a happy little missus then....lol

Just a pity about the backwards technology that the superior 60gb version has and also the SD card slot, which this version doesn't have either and that is the only fault with this version...shame really
