Listen Carefully - Genius At Work
Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) is one of Britain's most prolific and talented musicians. This wonderful album gives you a flavour of his genius. Recorded in 1988-89 when a complete unknown, with no record deal, no audience, but lots of ideas - this record is simply amazing. Remastered and re-issued (it was originally released on cassette by an Italian label in 1999) this is a really entertaining musical experience. The sound quality is excellent and the album features songs by Nick Drake and Donovan. It's a fantastic experience on headphones too!
Highly Recommended
This is the first time I have heard no-man, getting here by being a fan of Wilson's Porcupine Tree and Blackfield projects.
This disc is different: with a more stripped-down, ambient feel; I get the feeling that the spaces between what is recorded is as important as the sounds themselves.
Full of haunting melodies and soundscapes, that seem to seep into one's being. Highly recommended.
A good point of departure
To write a review on this album ( CD ), one first needs ( it d be nice ) to have a better artistic idea or clue to who No Man is . Many who probably arrived at this Cd s page , know who the group is or the quality of their delivery .
A group that does not play live much ( venues in front of people ) No Man is probably one of the most mature and beautiful expressions of music i ve heard in the 5 years I know their music . This cd tells their beginning . It takes into their simple beginning ; as one review observed when no audience or record deal were in sights of these artists
There are few atists who have come across in a very ' direct ' way and showed you their inception . Or what their feelings were at the time . These artists were probably so ahead of their time at the point of recording , that it s good that they flourished and grew and were able to push forward their beautiful melody . If you are thinking of purchasing this , go on and think also about acquiring ' Together we re stranger . Objectively they are twins or albums that were made with much in common
You may ask , why purchase an album made in 1988 and another made in 2004 , and think that there could be similarities ? No Man , were able to land a good record deal in the early 90 s , but under a record label s requests of what to play or record . So , in the liner notes of ' Speak ' Tim Bowness ( singer - fills us in that when No Man were able to finally acquire independence from a record label , or so to say play what they want - again , after 10 years - they began to record what they first thought was ' their ' sound . The result is the essential Returning Jesus - from 2002 - and Together we re stranger from 2004 . On a personal level i prefer the latter ( personal preference ] .
After informing you of the ' essence ' of this group , i beleive it s not necessary to get into more details of the sonic description of this record or others . But that the idea of re releasing it 15 years later was wonderful , as it additonally has new recorded vocals and remastersings . Thanx for reading n enjoy
