Synopsis
Before the advent of the modern pharmaceutical industry, mankind relied for thousands of years on medicinal plants and herbs to cure its ills. And today, as our faith in the infallibility of modern medicine begins to waver, we are turning back to the ancient wisdom of plant lore. The use of herbs for the relief of physical ills is a subject well covered in other publications. This book turns towards the subtler properties of herbs, exploring their ability to soothe our soul and heal our spirit. The first section of the book examines individual herbs, both Western and Chinese, classifying them by their subtle action: from "Herbs that Invite Peace and Stillness" to "Herbs that Gladden the Heart" and "Love Potions". Section two is a clear and practical guide to using the herbs in their different forms. It explains how to pick, preserve and use the herbs. The last section is a comprehensive "Materia Medica" including physical appearance, folklore, medicinal uses, cautions and contra-indications.

A beautifully presented table top book to cure what ails you5
Herbs for the Soul combines information with folklore, potions, recipes and specific information regarding chinese and western herbal medicine. But it isn't just for the remedies. The look and feel of the book is as aesthetically pleasing as the information itself. Excellent photographs interspersed with informative and heartwarming text make it easy to learn more about how nature heals us. It's like a mini-history lesson. Anyone who is into herbal teas, scented herbs and natural rememdies should thank Tamara personally for creating a book that draws you in to the very basic cures of the many ailments of the human race. Thoughtful quotes by artists and writers and an ingredients glossary put the finishing touches on this book. Anyone with a hardbound library should pick this up. You never know when you might use it for health reasons rather than read it strictly for pleasure.
