Exceptional value for money and great quality5
I originally wanted the Sony HC35 as I previously had a Sony hi8 camcorder which I used to use however it seemed to have problems with the sound and it was as big as a brick and heavy too. I missed the last one Amazon had on sale but was unwilling to buy it as a refurb and it was soon to be discontinued as I couldn't get hold of it for love nor money in the high street or online. Anyway the JVC GR-D390 caught my eye (as well as reading the reviews for the D340) and I read the spec and it had the magic words I was looking for DV in/out, which was why I wanted the Sony HC35 so badly. It seemed to be a feature that most DV cameras didn't have unless they were high-end and my eMac cried out for it.

Anyway the GR-D390 is small, no it's tiny and fits in the palm of my hand easily, which takes a bit of getting used to. The instruction manual does take some reading and it could be better but its fairly straight formward charge the batteries first, set the date, insert tape and away you go. I took it for a spin yesterday in the city centre and I stumbled across a Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron (£840,000 worth of supercar!)just sat there with a crowd of admirers snapping away, so out came the JVC GR D390, its just point and shoot, simple really. The LCD screen is so sharp and clear you'll need to get extra batteries as you'll love looking at it. The colours are pretty good as they are not washed out and quite vivid. Its a great little camera that really does shoot above its weight and at such a great price. The accessories are excellent, mains charger, av leads, usb lead, CD ROM, remote control (which I'll never use), the only let down no firewire cable (luckily I already had one but is needed for DV IN as well as webcam streaming - which works a treat with Skype, AOL/Yahoo messenger etc). I don't think you'll be disappointed with it and at that price it spec far exceeds others in that price range.

You cant beat this for this price!5
I got This JVC camera after a long time looking at other options... JVC seem to be making the best HDD camcorders acording to numerous reviews etc so i figured the mini DV's must be good contenders too.. For 175 quid this cam had double the amount of features of rivals like the sonys which start at 250!....

This Has DV in and out! and a Super bright LED which is always handy.. the build qualitys good and to date i havnt had a single problem..
the only bummer is you dont get a Firewire cable.. but luckily i got one years back with a PCI card! the images are clear and crisp.. but unlike the sonys the night shot on this camera is not Infa red... meaning you dont get the green and black night shots... That is the only honest quibble ive had but again.. if you look at the others.. youll be paying more that 175 for a top end Mini Dv... and i doubt that youll half get the features that this jvc carrying!....

Ideal camera for everyday use.. and will serve you well untill HDD camcorders start to become affordable.. a must buy!

    Enjoy!

    Absoloutely Brilliant!5
I bought this camcorder after looking at the Sony alternatives. I also asked my friend, who is an ITV presenter, and he says he woul use a DV tape camcorder over DVD camcoders any day. It has the ability to record in widescreen (useful for playback on widescreen television) and amazing optical and digital zoom.
The included remote control is a bonus as it enables you to film yourself. It has ports for USB (photos) and DV Firewire (video): it comes with a USB cable and photo memory card but not with a firewire cable which cost around £[...]
It's very simple to use and comes with photo transfer software.
I would definetly buy this product if you are looking for a cheap camcorder with lots of functions.
