Well written and enlightening book on one person's healing journey5
I am so glad that this book is back in print - it really is worth a read. I got a second hand copy when this book was out of print and the title had been on a reading list for a nutrition course I was interested in. It was a very useful starting point for my self education for my healing journey.

Although this book deals with recovery from cancer, it is actually very good to teach you how the body heals, amd so helpful for any condition for the insights it gives. Totally inspiring because it teaches you what to aim for in healing.

You do not have to follow the Gerson therapy which is what the author did(unless it strikes you that that is required for your healing journey) but this book will show you how the body should respond to the therapy of your choice.

Whilst the main story is fascinating, easy to read and inspriring, it was the little sub-stories that really struck me:
1. The body can heal anything if the immune system can get enough help and support - the basics are detox and nourish.

2. how the body heals - My father is a doctor and I have read his journals and text books from when I could first read - nowhere did I ever come across the healing process. I was shocked that I could have got through a very good education, read widely on general interest topics and including my father's medical books, even work in health care as a student in my holidays and never come across this basic fundamental concept! My father has always felt that it was wrong to address symptoms and ignore the cause of the disease, but said this is often how they practice.

Also a lot of conventional treatments either suppress the immune system or put an added burden on the liver which hampers the detoxification process. You may get better, but have you merely left a fire smouldering to break out elsewhere later? This book shocked me into realising that if you really want to get better ultimately you have to find a way to support and nurture your immune system.

All the body does is heal and regenerate - so when sick, shouldn't we be trying to find out how to support what the body does best with its own inner wisdom? Does it make sense to kick the immune system when it is down?

3. When the immune system is working it heals anything and everything - the tales Bishop gives of patients who had other conditions resolved, as well as the cancer they were hoping to cure, are fascinating.

4. It was inspriational to see the elderly people with cancer who were so determined that they were prepared to give a very gruelling therapy a go, and put in the personal effort to heal. This teaches that the body just tries to heal until our very last breath, so we should try to heal the body at any stage.

The Gerson therapy does not work for everyone - the problem is that sometimes the body is already too poisoned. Also the therapy is hard work and so you need to be disciplined. But if you cannot follow the therapy itself or get to a practitioner to help you, the basic principles will help you find what you need. You can always adopt part of the Gerson therapy, which is basically nutrition.

More importantly, this book will help you understand the healing process so it helps you judge the outcome of any treatment you follow, including coventional medicine. Unless you have triggered the healing process, then you know that the body still has work to do. This book taught me that simply dealing with the symptoms and in effect supressing them is not the same as healing.

We have overcomplicated the healing process - over-intellectualised it all. Our immune system is truling amazing and the body's ability to repair is profound. IF you can help it do its job by whatever works for you, be it conventional or "alternative" then you have the chance for better health. Once you unleash the power of your immune system then it seems that anything is possible (I even had an old scar on my knee flare up and reheal! A little ridged scar that I'd had for 40 years the result of a fall when I was 5 years old - just went pink and stayed that way for a week, and then when it rehealed I was left with a smooth white and almost invisible scar. An old familiar landmark just gone!)

I hope this book is as inspirational for you as it was for me. One therapist said to me that I wouldn't get better until I had learnt everything I needed to know - this book was a very useful first step.

Good luck and all the best in your journey

A truly inspirational introduction to Gerson Therapy5
If you ever wondered whether eating healthily really can make a difference to your health, you have to read this book. Beata Bishop was diagnosed with a dreadful form of cancer and yet, against the odds, managed a full recovery. This was achieved by following the rigorous Gerson Therapy, an impressive achievement in itself; but the results are awe-inspiring and obviously well worth the effort involved. The book is written in a very easy to read style, a real page-turner, and the fact that Beata is so down to earth (having one last whisky and a slap-up meal before giving up alcohol and committing to the Gerson regime) makes her easy to identify with. This is no idealised heroine battling her cancer against all odds, however inspirational the overall effect of the book may be! I have bought extra copies for friends, both those who have avoided being touched by cancer so far, and for those considering their treatment options at the moment. An excellent introduction to a cancer therapy that could save the lives of countless people around the globe.
