The second of three books accompanying the major BBC television series, this book features the Leopard families of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. Whether hunting, playing, or relaxing, the lives of these leopards are captured through stunning wildlife photography and illuminating text. Perhaps the most graceful and adaptable of all cats, leopards are also the world's most numerous big cats. Following on from the success of Big Cat Diary: Lion, this book goes beyond the day-to-day footage and explores the bigger picture of the lives of leopards in Africa. Through the lives of the famous Big Cat leopards, Half-tail, Shadow, Beauty and Safi, we learn about: The biology and behaviour of the leopards How leopards have evolved How we can conserve our big cat populations Jonathan and Angie Scott also go beyond the Masai Mara Game Reserve, to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, to look at the broader picture of the African leopard population. How can we ensure they maintain breeding populations, have enough space to hunt and sufficient prey to survive?

a great read for big cat fans
i really enjoyed the big cat diary television series and was interested to learn more about the characters in the show. this book does not disappoint and gives a marvellous insight into lives of individual lives. jonathan and angie scott also give much information on the history of big cats, how they evolved and reasons for their pride and hunting behaviour. there really is too much information to cover in a short review but together with outstanding photographs from these well known wildlife photographers, this really is an essential read for anyone interested in the lives of the big cats.
Wonderful
I'm a huge animal lover and especially a cat fan, but I wasn't especially interested in Cheetah's anymore than any other species of cat... I'm now definatley a Cheetah-person!
This book is excellent. The photo's are stunning. The narrative it poignant, interesting, exciting and well-written. I read this as I would a novel - frantically, loving every moment and not able to put it down. I was sad to close the last page and had a new-found respect for the slight, endangered but beautiful cats of the Masai Mara. The Leopard and Lion BCD books are great, but the Cheetah is my favourite.
I recommend to all!
Fantastic descriptions of Wildlife
Big Cat Diary is great reading material to learn about the lives of lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Plus, interesting information can be found about the prey of these big cats. The authors have named the animals, making it feel like you can acutally get a sense of friendship with individual cats. Plus, the book has many beautiful pictures of the Cats. I definately recommend this to anyone who has a fascination with wild cats.
