It niggles at your conscience
I have only given it 4 stars because of the price. It didn't cost as much as my wonderful new Apple Mac, but it ran it a close second. It does what it says on the tin but it annoys the hell out of me that each time I use it my conscience is pricked. When I look at all the rest of the software which is provided "free" with the Apple one does have to ask the question of Adobe. It also explains why there are so many "hooky" copies around, and yes, I was very tempted. I wonder how much Adobe would have made if the vast majority of users had paid a third of the price. I am the only person in our circle with a legit version, and no we are not penniless students, we are retired. Nobody bothers with hooky copies of Windows Office any more as the home pricing has been sorted out, Adobe should do the same and avoid their silly student pricing.

CS4 - Stunning!
I haven't used photoshop for five years so I was a little apprehensive at first.
It loaded without a glitch, was very helpful in the tutorial departments and is a joy to use.
I haven't yet used all the facilities but after trying other products I am overjoyed at coming back to a real friend!
I would love to give it a 6 star rating. Some of the intuitive responses are very helpful. I am still very much learning what CS4 can do but the journey is delightful.
The service and response time from Amazon was top-drawer, I shall be using you again.

It is the best.
There's not much you can say about Photoshop. It's far and away the best image control software on either a PC and a Mac. There are alternatives- including totally free ones such as GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)- but if you're working with images on a regular basis, or for work, Photoshop is the standard that none of the others meet.

I'd used Photoshop on a PC a lot but this was my first experience with it on a Mac. It caused me absolutely no problem whatsoever- everything's in exactly the same place, all the functionality matches up.

The way in which a background window is no longer required, so images can 'hover' above other software's windows in the background, is a bit distracting when you're used to maximising Photoshop and having it fill the screen with its grey window. Over time I'll adjust to this (or find a setting to change it) and eventually I'm sure that that will be a bonus rather than my only niggle.

I agree with other users about the pricing. I reckon that if Adobe charged a quarter of the price for the software (and ditched the slightly unnecessary 'Elements'), they would sell ten times as many copies. It seems especially harsh now that the software comes with no printed manual- just a cardboard box, with a DVD-sized case inside, with two discs. That's all.

However, it's Photoshop. If you're doing image work, you don't just want it- you NEED it.
