Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.com
Given the multimedia frenzy that accompanied Princess Diana's untimely death, it's somehow appropriate that the tragedy should inspire this album--a 2 CD set featuring 36 old and new tracks by an array of international stars--with a portion of the proceeds going to a Memorial Fund established in the late Princess' name. But, with Diana's death as the only unifying thread (and a tenuous one at that), it's not a particularly consistent or cohesive listen. But it's hard to argue with such an impressive array of stars including Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, the Spice Girls, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Puff Daddy, Aretha Franklin, R.E.M., Sinead O'Connor, Seal, George Michael, Des'ree, Bryan Ferry, and Michael Bolton (joining opera star Placido Domingo to perform "Ave Maria"). --Scott Schinder

Album a fitting tribute
I don't agree with E.J.Lindon at all. I admired Diana, and I find this album a fitting tribute. Never before has a celebrity captured our hearts to such an extent as her. This too at a time when the Internet was not as widespread as it is presently is ten years on. The Amazon.co.uk gives me an ample platform to express my gratitude in listening to such an exquisite album. Some of the songs are sublime such as Everything Hurts, Make me a Channel of Your Peace and Because You Loved Me. I could mention nearly all the songs but that would be superfluous. This album became chart topper. Had people like Lindon been in the majority, it wouldn't have made the charts at all.
Can't fail to please, and includes some fantastic tracks
This 2 CD collection (36 tracks) was obviously conceived as a tribute to Diana (and some of the money goes to her Memorial Fund). However at the end of the day it must be judged on the quality of the individual performances. On that basis it is difficult to see how if can fail to please with a list of star performers such as Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Puff Daddy, Aretha Franklin, R.E.M., Seal, George Michael, Bryan Ferry, and Placido Domingo. On the other hand if I consider that I have only 13 of the tracks on my ipod, then that is perhaps a better indication of the overall quality of this tribute (Puff Daddy, Des'ree, Seal, Spice Girls, Gloria Estefan, Simply Red, Lesley Garrett, Queen, Annie Lennox, Bryan Ferry, Eric Clapton, R.E.M., and Bruce Springsteen). But lets not be churlish, 13 fantastic tracks is worth giving it top marks.
Just a Terrible Idea
The (varying) quality and integrity of the original songs notwithstanding, the "unifying idea" of this anthology makes it unlistenable. Turning the grisly death of this unfortunate public figure into an object/commodity for sentimental and morbid gawping is nothing to be proud of.
