Product Description

The aim of this book is to outline the main methods and techniques available to ornithologists. A general shortage of information about available techniques is greatly hindering progress in avian ecology and conservation. Currently this sort of information is disparate and difficult to locate with much of it widely dispersed in books, journals and grey literature. Sutherland and his editorial team bring together in a single authoritative source all the ornithological techniques the avian community will ever need. For use by graduate students, researchers and practising conservationists worldwide. Bird Ecology and Conservation is the first title in a new series of practical handbooks which include titles focusing on specific taxonomic groups as well as those describing broader themes and subjects. The series editor is William J Sutherland.

TE News
"This is an excellent text in its field ... Although aimed at the specialist (who should see this as a must-buy text) the material is accessible enough for the keen amateur or student to gain much from the work. A text such as this bodes well for the rest of the series."

Review
'...a very comprehensive review of a really interesting subject...This book is ideal for graduate students and researchers, and will also serve as a useful tool for the growing number of environmental consultants and professional conservationists.' British Wildlife, December 2004.

This book is the first of an intended series each of which will treat a taxonomic group, or a broad subject area ... Given the growing importance of conservation, especially in the developing world, such a series is welcome and timely, and potentially influential ... I look forward to more in this series. Bird ecology and conservation3
Detailed in some sections but only providing scant overviews of many techniques, consistently lacking useful information I've since found in other guides. Im very much hoping it will prove its worth in other areas...which im sure it will eventually, it does include good references
