Amazon.co.uk Review
The nostalgically entitled Ibiza: The History of Trance comprises three CDs of anthems that are sure to fill the floors at any house party. The first disc has a fine selection of tracks--Energy 52's "Café Del Mar" helps to set the scene conjuring images of the setting sun on what can only be a night out filled with great club classics. The mood is light and friendly on the first disc and there are a few unexpected treats, such as the scintillatingly summery "Flaming June". Even Danii Minogue gets some action on the first disc.
The second disc is more progressive. The beats begin to build and swirl and things get more fun. Yomanda's "Synth and Strings" is a good example of the flavour--fun and funky with just a little pre-midnight cheekiness--and the good times just roll on with Public Domain's crowd-pleaser "Operation Blade". Everything becomes heated and heavier from here on in with tracks such as Kernkraft 400's "Zombie Nation" helping you to stomp on through into the wee hours. The third disc brings us to the end of our history lesson with a flourish. It's fittingly light and airy to match the slide down to sun up. ATB speak for all of us on "9PM (Till I Come)". And you know the sun is coming up when "Somebody to Love" by the Boogie Pimps blares out of the sound system. Even though every track might not work back to back, the production is right on the button and at six in the morning, who cares? --Jarrod Rendle

Trance on 3CDs
As a veteran of trance, I was a bit annoyed when my brother bought this album. I owned all but five tracks on the album, and those five are unquestionably the worst. Be warned, if you bought The History of Hard Dance from this same series you're in for a shock- the tracklisting is very similar. In fact the track-listing is pretty much the same as any "best of trance" album you'll see. And there are loads around today- people seem to think trance has died (not true, 2004 has seen a lot of new life) and best of compilations are the only way to go.
There are two potential customers who will buy this. Veteran trance addicts who want to remember all the classic tunes, and newbies to trance who want to get a good 40 classic trance anthems for a cheap price. If you're a veteran you really shouldn't bother- you'll probably own all this elsewhere and better mixed. Trance newbies however, will be advised to buy this. I've spent hundreds of pounds, searching out rare albums and singles to fill in the gaps and get all those caned classic tracks over the years. Save yourself the effort and get them all here.
Unless you're a true music fan, that is. When you start out listening to trance, you find out the classics by trawling through loads of CDs on the Internet. You listen to compilations with a few tracks you know are good, and in the process discover more. You visit forums, watch endless hours of music channels and find old singles in shops. In the process, you learn all about the history of these tracks and why they are classics at all. If you buy this CD, you'll have a fair chunk of the classics, but no real idea of why they're here. Don't expect to be able to know the entire of trance from what this CD tells you.
Overall, for newbies to trance this is a good starting point. If you see other compilations with a few tracks from here you like then buy it- it will give you a much better musical knowledge and help you find tracks that compilations like this always miss. If you're a veteran, don't bother. The tracks here have been shorted to fit so many onto each disc, and the digital mixing is predictably poor. There's also no attempt to structure the CDs into an intelligent tracklisting.
This compilation gets four stars purely because there are loads of absolutely brilliant tracks on here. Don't expect much more than a hitparade, and you won't be dissapointed.
I'm On the Cover of this album, and i rate it highly!!!
since i managed to get myself on the cover of this fine album...
i don't care if others rate it as cheesy??
this is the roots and classics of what trance used to be like back in the day during late 1990's 1998/1999/2000...
clubs like gatecrasher, cream, godskitchen, the howard(sheffield), ministry all these tunes made there mnames either in the uk or in ibiza... it brings back a lot of memorys...
most of the tunes are now still dropped in these clubs by top dj's...all i can say is classic are now floor fillers...
which all 3 cds cater for hear.........
i can only say if you don't buy?
you don't know what your coming from...
luv and beats...

Ibiza - History Of Trance
I decided to buy this after seeing/hearing an advert on the television. I was not dissapointed.
Even though I am only 15, I consider myself to be quite a veteran of trance music, and most of the songs on this album, some recent, some took me back to when I first began to endulge in trance. Tracks like ATB - 9PM took me back a long time...
Some of the tracks are too vocal for my liking, but all-in-all, this album is well mixed and quite a definitive guide to trance. A definate buy for those just discovering this genre.
