Great fun!
Having never played any Golden Axe titles of old, I wasn't sure what type of game I was going to be faced with. After playing it for about 4 hours I can say that it's a lot of fun, and quite hard, even on the easiest difficulty setting (Normal), I've died 3 times and I'm still on the first level (which is very long). The graphics are very good and although I've only seen two cut scenes they are very impressive. The combat is where the fun comes from, the parry and block counter attacks are great fun when you pull off the good ones (there's one where you mount your opponents shoulders from the rear and decapitate him - bloody and cool!). Controlling the beasts takes some time to master but is pretty cool when you can. I've heard some negative reviews about this game but personally, I don't agree, I think this is a great new-generation arcade action adventure epic with brilliant graphics, great gameplay and offers many many hours of bloody battling, especially with the inclusion of the survival arena and challenge modes, which you can use your new swords and outfits in (earned during the main story game). I would recommend Golden Axe to all PS3 owners who enjoy these arcade-type actioners.
*** A GREAT CLASSIC GETS BETTER***
AS A FAN OF THE CLASSIC SEGA GAME I COULD NOT WAIT FOR THIS TO BE RELEASED AND IM SUPRISED ITS TAKEN SEGA THIS LONG. THIS GAME HAS EVERYTHING FROM THE CLASSICS ALONG WITH MUCH MORE GAME PLAY.
OBVIOUSLY BEING ON PS3 THE GRAPHICS ARE INCREDIBLE ALONG WITH THE OLD FEATURES INCLUDING THE BEASTS YOU CAN RIDE AND THE MAGICS YOU CAN USE AGAINST THE ENEMIES WHICH REALLY DOES BRING THE GAME TO LIFE.
Don't bother
The worse game i have played. I'm a fan of the original, but this is very poor in comparison. The textures are pixelated and poor and the game is suprisingly laggy in places, to the point where it affected the sound, making it repeat like a broken record. The music itself was very bland and repetitive.
I really wanted to give it a chance for nostalgic reasons but it was too painful an experience to progress beyond the first few levels, and i gave it up after around 2 hours.
Maybe i should of persisited with it, but the initial experience was too disappointing and i honestly thought they did not deserve my £40 for such an unsatisfactory game.
I hope this is helpful to other potential buyers.
