Synopsis
When CBS debuted its new series, THE WALTONS, in 1972, no one was prepared for the level of success it reached. Telling the story of a large family living on Walton's Mountain during the Great Depression, the series tackles universal themes that continue to ring true to this day. Told from the perspective of John Boy (Richard Thomas), an aspiring writer who makes his way through college and into adulthood, THE WALTONS is a timeless work of entertainment. Featuring all 25 episodes from the third season.

Customer Reviews

Family entertainment of the highest kind5
I have now bought series 1 to 4 from Amazon uk and each one is a joy to watch. Get all the family around to watch like my family used to in the 70's!

By the way, those who want series 5-9 might like to know that you can get them on region 2 from the German Amazon website. Warner Brothers say they have no plans to release the remaining series in the UK. Apart from the German writing on the packaging it's just the same as the UK releases!

John-Boy goes to college5
This is the season when John-Boy goes to college. So there's quite a lot to do with his life at Boatwright University, where he meets all kinds of new people. Of course, the stories are in the same vein: people get themselves into some kind of trouble (usually of a minor kind like losing a ring or the school guinea-pig dying) and various moral and other dilemmas ensue. It sounds trivial, but manages to be affecting and involving (and often very funny) thanks to the the great charm and skill of all the cast (the key to any long-running drama like this).
As usual this DVD is great value - under £10 for 25 episodes! Mind you, there are no 'extras'. Picture quality is mostly fine, though occasionally the colour is a bit shaky. Probably not something the average viewer will notice.
If you've bought the first two series, you'll be happy to know that there's no falling off in the quality of production in this third series. The period setting is faultless (as far as I can tell!): you really feel like you're back in the thirties.
Highly recommended.
