Full of tips and photographs
I was drawn to this book for the attractive cover and then the attractive layout inside.
The book is arranged into eight chapters: Choosing a Dog, Caring for Your Puppy, Caring for Your Dog, Behaviour, Socializing and Training, Health and Wellbeing, Reproduction Cycle, and, As Dogs Get Older. Each chapter is beautifully illustrated with lovely photographs of all kinds of dogs. The format of the text is the same for each chapter; there are a series of questions with answers. An example in the Behaviour chapter is "Why does my dog chase cars and bicycles and how can I stop him" followed by a short paragraph giving succinct advice on what to do. This makes the book easy to dip in and out of but it's not one that you really sit down and read, it's too disjointed for that.
There are some tips on basic training but this is not a training book so if you want to learn how to train your dog, you need another book. However, this book has lots of interesting tips and advice and is recommended alongside a good basic training book.
