Customer Reviews
Good Practical Book
This is a good guide to raising a puppy, we found it more practical and less prescriptive then The Perfect Puppy. Don't be put off by the title, the guidance given here is applicable to all pups
A great book for ANY dog owner
I bought this book for my mum when we got her a new puppy.
The reason I chose it, is because I thought that the principles used by guide dog trainers would transfer well to my mum, and ensure that her puppy was well behaved and calm, after all; who wouldn't want a dog as calm and responsive as a guide dog? I have to say my theory was right.
After a few short weeks the puppy was responding well to training, and the most important task for my mum has already been achieved (walking calmly to heel, my mum has a bad shoulder and can't cope with being pulled).
My mum loves the book, as it doesn't promote harsh training methods and allows her to strike a balance between treating your puppy like a dog, and also gaining that much needed pet relationship.
The only comments I feel i should make are that this book will probably vary in effectivness depending on the breed of your dog. Some breeds are just not best suited to being guide dogs, so the result may not be a promising as expected. However your dog will still be made the most of.
A well trained dog is a HAPPY dog.
First of all I am registered blind ( I use special software to help me use the computer) in the same way I can scan a book and the computer will read it to me. I have been a guide dog owner for 20 years and am always being asked "Why are your dogs so obedient" Well I can't take the credit for that but in order to help me understand my dog I got this book, excellent quality - excellent book, thank youPuppy Training the Guide Dogs Way
