Customer Reviews
42 tracks of pure 80s nostalgia!
I bought this double CD on the strength of two tracks: Mathew Wilder's 'Break My Stride' (one of my all time favourite pop songs) and the Kane Gang's 'Closest Thing to Heaven', which, as far as I know, is the only track available on CD by this sadly forgotten band. Despite already having at least 26 of the tracks I can't stop playing this wonderful collection. Every track is a 80's pop classic (with the exception of the mundane J Geils Band's ‘Centrefold’ and Sister Sledge's ‘Frankie’).
The selection of and sequencing of the tracks is excellent. There is a good variety of 80s pop styles ie. 'New Wave/Post Punk' (Blondie, the Clash), 'Pure Pop' (Ph.D, Bangles), 'Modern Romantic' (ABC, Soft Cell, Duran Duran), and 'Quality pop' (Simply Red, Elton John, Communards).
On the down-side: 'The Look of Love' fades out before the end thus depriving us of it's dramatic ending! (Was the chopping really necessary for the sake of a few seconds?) I would have preferred some information about each track to have been provided on the sleeve, and I find the inclusion of adverts for ring tones (for 'only' £3.75) somewhat tasteless.
These gripes apart, 'FriendsReunited from the 80s' makes for great home listening and has to be a winner at parties. The songs sum up for me 80s pop. Nearly all tracks contain great vocals. In summary: Nostalgia which still sounds fresh and vibrant today!
Not one for the late eighties
This album is a great nostalgia trip bringing back many school disco memories but my only complaint is that there are not enough track from the late 1980's.
I have 2 older brothers so I was brought up with this music but for anyone who can't remember Spandau Ballet or Adam and the Ants
there is not as much to entertain.
There are 5 tracks form the late eighties including 'Baby I Don't Care' by Transvision Vamp and 'Never Gonna Give You Up' By Rick Astley.
Where are the boy bands from this era , Bros and Brother Beyond?
Despite this there are still enough good tracks and only a few that make you reach for the 'skip' button on the CD player.
All together this album is worth a listen to even if you have already got some of the tracks ion other Cds.I hope they soon bring out a 90s version.
Bit of an oddity...
.....A website inspired/produced album.....
Odd provenance notwithstanding, this does exactly what it says on the tin...For those of us who were at school in the 80's, this takes you back to those cheesy discos and thinking you were "It" if you could breakdance or do that "Thing" with your arms...
For those who weren't at school in the 80's. buy this anyway - as a compilation of some of the decade-defining toons, you could do a lot worse...an awful lot worse....
