This is a complete self-help recovery programme to overcome anorexia using cognitive therapy techniques that have been tried and tested for many years and shown conclusively to work. Anorexia nervosa is the best known and most dangerous eating disorder. It's especialy common among young women. Although it occurs in both women and men of all ages, in all social groups. Unless treated, more than 20 per cent of sufferers will die of causes related to the disorder. There is also considerable evidence that anorexia is more widespread than we suppose, and that the illness is under-diagnosed among socially disadvantaged groups.

A helping Hand...
This book has been very helpful for me, as I am trying to recover from anorexia. The book has actually helped me to admit to myself that I do have a problem, it outlined all the effects on health that the eating disorder has, and it also helped me to understand myself a bit more. When I read the book, I was totally amazed at the content, as practically everything that was described in the book, were the thoughts and behaviours that I have. I am glad that I decided to purchase this book, it was recommended to me by my counsellor who is currently helping me to to recover from this disorder.
This book is helping a lot, but it is still hard to return from this disorder, at least I have the book to consult everytime my thoughts and moods start to drop. It has and will remain very useful for me. I would recommend it to anyone who is having trouble admitting to themselves that they have a problem, not just with food, but a deep set, underlying psychological trigger that drove them to handle their distress through anorexia.
Excellent book for people in all stages of AN
A couple of years ago I developed mild AN symptoms which escalated about 6 months ago. I bought this book not really thinking my problem was that serious. After reading I discovered I have "clinical anorexia" verging on severe. The book described all of my symptoms and I realised I had a problem which needed fixed. The self help section of the book is excellent, and it has charts for recording your meals, and feelings. I would recommend this book to people with anorexia, and even to people who feel anorexia may be starting, as this book will help you avoid going down the same road as I did.
Helpful Read
Having suffered from anorexia nervosa & in the process of recovery I found this book to be extremely helpful, giving me an insight into the illness, ways to manage it/recover, figure out why it happened & the step forward etc. It is in no way patronising or forceful etc. Recommended to me/lent to me by a medical professional who is a former member of the Eating Disorders Team at the Institute of Psychiatry.
