Customer Reviews
Mk3 live, but not the full monty.
I shamefacedly admit that I've had the bootleg of this for years, which includes all but the last two tracks, but this release is welcome - the engineers have somehow made Glenn Hughes' bass audible! It's also interesting for us to hear Ritchie Blackmore actually screw up the riff to Burn, proving he is a fallible human being who HAPPENS to play superhuman guitar 99% of the time. He also opens Mistreated with one of his most dazzling displays of his two Purple episodes. This is really heart-rending stuff. David Coverdale also shines, and Ian Paice is as effortlessly brilliant as always. Jon Lord plays moving organ solos and passages (again, when DOESN'T he?). And, as stated, you can now hear Glenn Hughes' excellent bass. His vocals on this occasion are not quite up to his usual level, but then again Glenn Hughes' standards are impossibly high. This is the greatest band of all-time at their third peak, doing what they do best.
Awesome but short
Mk3 in San Diego was a band firing on all cylinders. We have stunning versions of all the classics from this era plus a rare Smoke and an very well played but short keyboard solo.Blackmore dances around his guitar as usual making this a better show than the infamous Calfornia Jam from days early. If only it was a complete set.Ah well...
