Cate West - Vanishing Files
Cate captivating West! Compuslive to the end and like a tube of pringles - once you pop you can't stop!
Repeatative and slightly tedious
After recently completing Secret Files 1 and 2, Prof Layton, Hotel Dusk and more recently Broken Sword I was looking forward to another search and find game which would challenge my brain in some way but I was very disappointed. There are 15 chapters to the game and every chapter is exactly the same, spot the difference, search and find, spot the criminal!! I persevered in completing the game hoping as every chapter passed it would be different to the next but again massively disappointed as every chapter was the same. If this is the first discover and find game you have tried you might not feel the same but if you have tried any other of the above brilliant games I also mentioned then give this one a miss!!
Need an extra magnifying glass...
After playing an online trial, I was really looking forward to this as a more adult, more involved version of titles like millionheir. Sadly I was disappointed.
The game was really designed for PC and does not transfer to the Nintendo DS platform well. No real use is made of the top screen and the bottom screen is too small to be split for the 'spot the difference' sections. The scenes are attractively drawn, but the objects to be found are indistinct and ridiculously small. Sometimes even once the object is found it's hard to tell what it is.
The other disappointing aspect was the plot. Characters were introduced but not expanded on or followed up (one apparently key character just disappears). The clues hidden in the crime scenes had no relation to the crime or the story line. What could have been a very satisfying game felt like a wasted opportunity.
Don't expect too much of it.
