The 'Mallard' is famous for holding the world steam train speed record of 126mph, set in 1938. It wasn't withdrawn until 1963. The Mallard was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, LNER's chief engineer and it is said that the name came to him whilst feeding ducks at Salisbury Hall. The original engine weighed 102 tons 19cwt and featured 6'8 driving wheels.
This classy locomotive is ready for Hornby's Digital Control System and has a detailed cab and semi-fixed tender, spring buffers, NEM couplings and a five pole skew wound motor. Perfect for your long distance express trains.

Hornby train
The train was bought as a present and has provided much joy. It needs to be for an older child or adult due to the fragility of the train. As a product it is excellent and the attention to detail is awesome.
