Amazon.co.uk Review
A gripping British antidote to the counter-terrorism related drama that’s coming from the US, Spooks’ secret agents are back on superb form in this enthralling fourth season. The DVD set features all ten episodes, and there’s an immense amount to enjoy.
For those new to Spooks, it’s a drama that’s packed with twists and turns, clever characterisation, conspiracies and a generous dollop of intrigue. The Spooks of the title are counter-terrorism spies, living in a constant world of danger, and some of the edgy plotlines of this and the seasons that preceded it are testament to that.
After the minor criticisms levelled at season three, this fourth series jumps back into action, and while you won’t find spoilers here, it quickly exceeds expectations. So when the credits roll at the end of the superb final episode, there are few who won’t be checking out a release date for the fifth series.
Inevitable comparisons to 24 ensue, but the beauty of Spooks is that it has enough verve and enough ideas to carve out a niche all of its own. It’s an excellent piece of British television drama, and while its tough approach won’t engage with all, the majority are likely to find themselves hooked. And quickly. --Jon Foster
Synopsis
Features all ten episodes of the fourth series of the television drama which centres on a team of counter-terrorist spies collectively known as Spooks because of the shadowy nature of their existence. Technically speaking, Spooks don't even exist. They have no names, identities, or known locations. Yet these secret agents are all that stand between the nation and the terrorists who try to undermine national security.

Back on Track
After the short lull of series three, spooks is back in full swing. The increasingly beautiful collection of spies are here pitted against far right politicians, ex-spooks, and a terrorist group with literally every human on the earth as their targets, to name just a few.
The opening two parter is one of the best TV thrillers I've ever seen and spooks continues to prove it's often better than going to the movies. Though we lose some familiar faces and gain some new ones, it avoids the get-rid-of-someone-every-two-episodes syndrome of series three.
Basically, if you want some highly rewatchable and enjoyable thrillers then this series will not disapoint.
very slick
i honestly thought that this was the best series yet.
series one and two were exceptional and series three was a let down. i think it struggled with the loss of main characters.
however, series 4 seems to start afresh, completely renewing my interest in the program. everything seems more finished, with more character development than in previous series.
it's all very slick indeed, and i can't wait to see it all again.
Well worth buying!
I was really hesitant to buy Series 4 after Series 3. I thought 1 and 2 were good but started to meander as various characters were written out. Series 3 felt like all the writers went on vacation and good actors were left with ridiculous storylines.
The good news is that the show is back to its old form! If you liked series 1 and 2, the the show has found itself again and picks up the pace with improved storylines, better writing, and interesting, new characters. (Yes, the characters are a little underdevelped and the relationships rushed, but everything can't be perfect.)
Kudos to the writers!
