The blurring hand speed of Calzaghe proved decisive as he took his unbeaten record to 44 fights - 21 of them world title defences!

In his decade of dominance, Calzaghe has never had to dig so deep. Kessler was class but the judges' scorecards confirmed the undeniable excellence of the Welsh warrior.

Joe Calzaghe will proberbly be remembered as the greatest fighter that we in the UK have ever produced. Joe Calzaghe has been regarded, by most, as the best Super Middleweight in the world for over 10 years and has enjoyed over 20 successful defences of his WBO World Championship. Over an impressive title reign, Calzaqhe had beaten Robin Reid, Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell, Jeff Lacy, Chris Eubank and Richie Woodhall etc. However a new challenger arose from Denmark in Mikkel Kessler and this power-punching Dane was widley considered the most dangerous opponent Calzaghe had ever faced.

Mikkel Kessler came into his fight with Joe Calzaghe with a very impressive undefeated record and was both the WBA and WBC World Champion. Kessler had beaten world class fighters like Markus Beyer, Andrade, Lucas, Mundine. Such impressive victories earned him a crack at Calzaghe.

The fight itself proved to be a classic, the 2 best fighters in the Super-Middleweight division facing each other in front of 50,000 fans. Both men gave it their all and finally Calzaghe proved to the world what we in the UK always knew ..... that Calzaghe is something special.
