Customer Reviews
Excellent, tough live album
One of the best live offering from the Stones, "Stripped" is culled from club dates in Amsterdam and Paris, as well as rehearsals in Tokyo and Lisbon.
The sound is excellent, and you get a sense that the band is much "closer" than on your average live album.
There is a sense of urgency all the way through...Mick Jagger's vocals are superb, completely focused, and the band is tight.
The Rolling Stones do an excellent rendition of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" with some powerful drumming from Charlie Watts, and a great take on Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away", but it's really impossible to talk about highlights here...the entire CD is filled with some of the best performances the Stones have ever released.
They do a wonderful live version of the soulful, gospel-like "Shine A Light", and other rarely-played songs like "The Spider And The Fly", "I'm Free" and Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain".
Also, this rendition of "Wild Horses" has to be the definitive take on that song, and the same can be said for the superb "Dead Flowers" (great solo by Ronnie Wood) and the lean, bluesy "Sweet Virginia".
Many arrangements are primarily or solely acoustic, and Mick Jagger plays the harp on several songs, adding to intimate atmosphere, as well as helping to make "Stripped" such a superb, soulful live album, and a must-own even for casual Stones fans.
Highly recommended.
THE ONLY STONES COMPILATION YOU WILL EVER NEED!!
Forget your High Tide & Green Grass, 40 Licks, Rolled Gold etc. If you really want to listen to the Stones performing some of their best work (and I don't mean greatest hits), then Stripped is the album for you. This compilation contains possibly their best ever work. Tracks such as Wild Horses (My No1 Stones track of all time), Let It Bleed, Sweet Virginia, Dead Flowers, Angie: to name but a few, plus a cover of the greatest rock song ever written, Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone'. There are 14 tracks contained on this album showcasing some of the best live recordings made by The Stones. The sound production is superb and there is a heavy reliance on a full bodied rich acoustic guitar sound. Their best work from the sixties and early seventies provides the core of this album, and lets face it The Rolling Stones reached their peak between 68 to 74 (The Mick Taylor years). If you are a Stones fan or simply someone wishing to sample an overview of how good the 'world's greatest rock band' can sound: Get this album! You will NOT be dissapointed. This is up there with the best live rock albums ever made.
A great live collection of some of the Stones best tunes
This is an excellent live album which mixes slow numbers such as Wild Horses and Sweet Virginia with some of the Rolling Stone's best live rock in Street Fighting Man and Dead Flowers. Alongside classics like Shine A Light, Not Fade Away and I'm Free, it's the next best thing to being there in person. A must for any Stones fan as the versions here are unique, and as a bonus, there's a great cover of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone". The multimedia extras can only add to the value of the CD
