From the Inside Flap
Just over a year ago, Deric enjoyed intermittent visits from a black feral tomcat called Eric. Eric had taken to using the cellar as a refuge from the vagaries of life, and a bolt-hole for whenever he needed to escape the wife and kids for a few hours. Over the weeks they reached a truce: Eric wouldn’t scratch or bite, as long as Deric didn’t look straight at him. He was a fine animal, but living wild in the park had taken its toll with his clogged-up eyes and a nose to match. There weren’t many months left in him. And sure enough, one day he disappeared.

A few days later, the Huddersfield Examiner ran a short news item: the RSPCA had captured a pair of feral cats in the park and had them spayed, along with their three black kittens. A fourth kitten had escaped.

Going down to breakfast the next morning Deric saw, sitting on the old wooden bench in the garden, a half-grown kitten, as black as coal.

‘Hello, young man. I was reading about you only last night.’
‘Yeow.’
‘I think I knew your dad – slightly.’

And that is how Nokia became a member of the Longden family. He joined Deric and his wife, Aileen, and their two ageing cats, Tigger and Thermal. Paws in the Proceedings is their story – one full of the sort of mischief, mishaps and adventures that come with sharing your house and life with a troop of small cats with big personalities.

Bloomin CATS5
It is entirely the fault of Mr Longden that my wife has ended up with 6 cats! Talk about waiting to be 'set on'. They kept turning up week after week - word obviously got around that we had opened up our home to any cat who needed a place to kip for the night. I read one of my wife's CAT books out of desparation and found Deric Longden! Paws in th proceedings is wonderfully funny and I am delighted that there is another man out there with the same thought processes and sense of humour as myself. I hate cats and you can tell this by the way they congregate around me. I even have to sleep with one on my head. deric's book gives me a bit of empathy as well as a good laugh. I am sure my Siamese sits on my lap and smirks

Totally hilarious!5
I've read Deric's other books and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I wasn't expecting this one to be any different. It wasn't!

Back after a fairly long illness, Deric is on top form and I recommend this book to anyone wanting a laugh. This book is a laugh a minute and if you're owned by cats yourself, you'll relate to it even more!

More books please, Deric!

Throughly enjoyable5
I have been a fan of Deric's for sometime now and have read all his books and got both dvd's.
He never fails to make me laugh and as a cat owner..i know exactly where he is coming from.
Anyone who has never read one of his books does'nt know what their are missing.
Hope there will be more to come.As always a delightful read.
