The emphasis is on communication throughout with important language structures introduced through dialogues on the accompanying recording. There are plenty of exercises to practise the language as it is introduced, and tips throughout to help with pronunciation and grammar. Two revision units help the learner to check their progress halfway through and at the end of the course. Cultural information sections give useful advice and information for anyone planning a trip to Brazil.



The new edition retains the tried-and-tested structure of the lessons but has been updated with a new page design. Several new features have been added including:



- an English-Portuguese vocabulary to go alongside the existing Portuguese-English vocabulary



- a glossary of grammatical terms



- a 'taking it further' section to direct learners to further sources of real Brazilian Portuguese



The page design has been improved and section headings given in English to make the course easier to use for the self-access learner.

Tach Yourself Brazian Portugese complete course
I had to get the book and the CD separately and the CD came first. I could understand what was being said and the introduction implied that you could use it without the book. However many of the exercises require one to see things in the book, so in theory one could use the book by self but not the CD. It does show the difference between European and Brazilian Portugese very well, both the difference in pronunciation and the more relaxed grammar. It does not go into as much detail as DK Hugo's Portuguese in Three Months, which covers both European and Brazilian Portuguese.
