Do not gamble on any other guidebook!
I bought this guidebook in Rio after I was thoroughly disapointed with the guide I had bought for my South Amercia trip (see my review on Rio De Janeiro (Globetrotter Travel Pack) (Paperback)).
The Lonely Planet guide saved my trip and allowed me to enjoy the truly amazing city of Rio!
My conclusion - no more gambling - it's Lonely Planet for me every time!

Great guide
Used this guide on a week long trip to Rio and would highly recommend it. The maps are all very good and the general info about Rio is interesting and very informative.

Made my Rio holiday!
This book was my saviour- I took it everywhere with me! I used everything, from the map to the phrases! the descriptions of the areas were spot on, and without it I wouldn't have known which (local) restaurants were worth going to. It was also great to discover areas that are not obvious to the first time Rio traveller, this book had it all!
