Average customer review:Product Description
Over the past few years, Western Europeans have woken up to the idea that Croatia is not a country of civil strife and only packaged holiday-makers. So, here is our first guide to show the independent visitor to Croatia some truly special places to stay. We look for owners, homes and hotels that we like – and we are fiercely subjective in our choices. ‘Special’ for us is not about the number of creature comforts, but relates to many elements that make a place ‘work’. Certainly, the way guests are treated comes as high on our list as the setting, the architecture and the food.

About the Author
Alastair has been publishing the Special Places to Stay guides since 1994. His travel publishing company was born of a successful tour company that took groups on off-the-beaten-track trips across Europe. An avid environmentalist (founding Avon Friends of the Earth and currently a trustee of the Soil Association), he is keen to encourage B&B and hotels owners’ ‘green’ credentials, by celebrating their use of organic and local food. Alastair Sawday Publishing offsets its carbon emissions and strives in other ways to be as green and as ethical as possible, for example by printing on recycled paper. Lisa Plumridge is an experienced travel editor who has lived in various European cities. She has recently fallen for Croatia and produced this guide with determination and gusto.
Customer Reviews
I have to confess....
I bought this book for a friend who has taken three holidays in Croatia now
and each time has said 'great place, awful hotel'. Of course, I couldn't
help but flick through it and once again it looks as if this latest
Sawday's guide manages to find something that will suit every
taste and budget. From a swanky new hotel with hand made, made to measure
cherry wood furniture in each room to full board on a organic farm.
Croatia seems to be making huge efforts to promote eco-tourism and
I've no doubt that this new guide will assist in this quest. This book
(with the usual high standard of photography and text) makes it easy to
see why people have begun to rave about this destination. My friend will never dare
complain about the standard of accommodation again, and I am consulting
the diary to see when I can fit in my first visit.....
