Best of the bunch
This book seemed to be aimed directly at people like me as someone who visited Berlin in the days when the wall was still up and who want to know as much as possible about how different things are now.
Like all the best Lonely Planet books the book seemed effortlessly to mold politics, history and the arts into a seamless whole. The section on architecture was particularly good.
It was good to have the U bahn map spread over 2 pages as quite a few books try to condense it onto one page which makes for fiendishly difficult reading for some of us 40 somethings. My only reservation concerns the maps at the back. I did not find these at all easy to follow on my recent trip to Berlin and did better with the free ones from the hotel or the Information office.
My visit was for several days so I was also able to make a day trip to Dresden. The book contained a very useful section on this city.
There seem to be a lot of good guides to Berlin in the shops but this is the one I would recommend to anyone who is a first time visitor or a returnee.
Better than the Rough Guides
Clear and easy to read, good map of the public transport system. Buy it if you going for a long weekend.
Loved it!
Took this guide with me when I was in Berlin for a week. Had no problems. Very up to date. Nice explenations about all the sites. Could do with a bit more colour pictures. In my opinion alot better than Timeout.
All the information provided in it was spot on.
A tip for anyone visiting Berlin. Remember to validate your train ticket where you purchase it!
