Most usefull guide5
Every Dorling Kindersley Guide has been a great and interesting book... and delightful to have and use, even if you are not traveling to that location, but are only interested in learning more!

The Guides are well organized in a logical and easy to follow manner. They are beautifully illustrated, well developed with accurate information (it is unusual for hotel and restaurant information to be that accurate), have enough history to help the reader understand the people and cultural background, and have a lot of useful travel information and useable maps in the appendixes.

The really great attraction to this book is several fold; it is:
............Very complete
............Easy to read
............Beautifully and artistically completed
............Good shopping, safety and other tips
............Gorgeous photographs too numerous to list.

Eyewitness Travel Guide : Amsterdam5
I should have bought this book before going to Amsterdam back in August. But as I'm going to go back next spring this is the 'only' book I need. Not too big in size, this book is packed with photographs and really good illustrations, and so easy to follow. The is also a nice section to the book 'Beyond Amsterdam' so if you were thinking of some day trips further away, then there is useful information to hand. DK books in my opinion have always lived up to my expectations, and this one is no exception. If you are planning to go to Amsterdam, then this is the only book you need - you won't be disapointed, I highly recommend it!

Excellent guide to a city made complicated by myriad canals4
The DK Guide to Amsterdam follows the now familiar format used in all of their travel books. It neatly divides the city into manageable sections and gives much relevant information on each. The attractions highlighted are described succinctly with opening hours and admission prices clear.

Two criticisms though, not enough information about attractions for children and the book leads one to be almost afraid to take a taxi due to high fares - not true, e.g. it can actually work out cheaper to take a taxi from and to the airport if more than one person is travelling. It is also much more convenient and much quicker than public transport. The fare from the airport to our hotel in the centre of Amsterdam was 50 guilders approx. £ 16.50 (for four).
