These guides take you underground, under the skin of various cities. Fun and insiderish.

Superb
I'm not entirely sure why the other reviewer gave it one star because their comment certainly doesn't appear to display such disdain for the guide. Nevertheless, in my opinion Time Out New York is one of, if not the, best NYC travel guides out there. It's presented in a very easy-to-use layout, has loads of pictures and maps and is written by locals. No longer will you have to put up with guides that appear to have been written by some bloke in a loft office on another continent - this is the real deal. Obviously, as with any guide, the recommendations are to a certain degree a matter of personal taste, however this is the same with any guide and for the most part they are very accurate here.
The guides are updated each year and, while there is not a whole lot of difference between them (if you already own the 2007 version then there is little point in getting the 2008, for example), it does provide a few new listings and makes updates where necessary.
All in all, I would highly recommend Time Out New York to anyone planning a trip to New York who may be unfamiliar with the place as they are easy to use and provide a great local insight that many books lack. Unless you are obsessive (I am), it's probably not worth getting an updated copy if you own one from the past 2 or 3 years as most of the info still applies but, nevertheless, it's a great read and a very good travel guide. Top notch stuff.
Time Out
This is a perfect guide if your going to New York bacause it has updated information on places to see and do.
Doesn't live up to hype
This book is okay. I bought it along with another. It is however not the best and doesn't have the same amount of info or a decent map as some of the other books.
