"Shed Chic" offers inspirational guidance to planning, sourcing and decorating your own individual garden building, from location and utilities to materials, style and furnishings. Sheds are no longer neglected outbuildings or decorative afterthoughts at the bottom of the garden. While the traditional garden shed was once a great place to escape to, where order was at best haphazard and decor and design not a consideration, these places have become the latest area of the home to be discovered by creative designers who see the garden as an extendable space, whether in the heart of the city or in a larger rural setting.Increasingly these micro buildings are being pressed into service as an 'office' now that home working has become a credible alternative to commuting and an economic means of running a business from home. They are equally successful as spaces in which to indulge creative pursuits or to make a well-considered home-from-home away from the outside world. "Shed Chic" is all about making space. Outdoor buildings can double as additional rooms for over-crowded homes, they offer flexible and usable spaces that are versatile and practica converted into a neat and tidy office in which to welcome clients, an artist's studio filled with inspirational clutter, a teenage den or a garden room for entertaining. "Shed Chic" is an indispensable guide to planning, designing and decorating all forms of micro outdoor buildings. It features hundreds of inspirational ideas for making the additional space of outdoor buildings work as pared-down living areas, self-contained working environments or space to entertain. It includes advice on creating a home office from scratch, including when to use architects, planning requirements, self-build options or off-the-peg solutions.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Writer Sally Coulthard discusses the multitude of purposes, ranging from play space for children to guest quarters, that private garden sheds can accommodate. Shed Chic highlights case studies and offers technical guidelines for infrastructures, as well as including a detailed directory of companies, architects, and decorating resources. This beautifully illustrated guide is the perfect way to inspire someone who is thinking of adding a shed to his or her property."

Review
"This wonderful book is a mix of pure escapism and the very best practical advice on everything from design and planning to useful contacts. Like all Sally Coulthard's books it is beautifully written. It's also packed full of pictures of every kind of shed and "nearly shed" you can imagine from the cosy country style used as a second sitting room to the contemporary office cum guest accommodation nestled at the bottom of the garden. There's even a converted gypsy caravan to drool over. Even if you can't afford a shed, even if you haven't got a garden, you must buy this book because we'd all love a den and we can all dream."
Review
'Sally Coulthard's book is a treat. (Her) enthusiasm for the subject is infectious'.

not for storing the lawnmower in
wonderful and inspiring, all i need to do now is save for the shed that can let me escape from the daily routine, mine will be the sea side theme, as i love the sea but live miles from it,it will be my own little beach hut in the scottish countryside

I would like to have any one of the 'sheds' featured in this book but will have to wait for my husband to finish building our summer house before I can get set on decorating the inside. Like an extended glossy interiors magazine, this book shows the wide variety of decorating choices we have today, there's even room for the garden tools as well!
A bit of escapism
Wonderful book to curl up and escape into, gives loads of ideas for creating outdoor spaces...something to inspire and dream about.
